It is one of the best Comedy classes I have ever taken. I wish I would be in that classroom to enjoy this learning even more. This course is so short but its extremely precise still full of information mainly because the teacher's experience is speaking. I wish there would be more courses from the same teacher. Greg is engaging and clear when he is explaining the concepts. The joke prospector/mine/map system is a great structure for writing one and 2 liner style jokes, and as you write more following the system, you WILL improve. With practice, you may be able to understand how some of these mechanisms can be applied to stories and longer jokes, but you won't hear a word about that here. Lot of typos, which is kind of odd for someone teaching writing. For the most part, easily ignored. Most of what keeps this from being a 5 star course is that the description of the course outright lies about what's included. Out of the 7 things on the "What you'll learn" list, only 2 of them actually appear anywhere in this course. I recommend this as a good intro to a decent system of writing short jokes. There is no performance aspect to this course, or anything about storytelling. I'm happy with what material I have learned, but definitely feel there was some suckery at play here, and was told there would be much more.

This is a fantastic course for people looking to get a solid understanding of basic joke structure, and his Joke Prospector system gave me a HUGE bump in in the number of jokes I write. I went from struggling to come up with one or two jokes on a good day, to ten or fifteen every day, allowing me to cherry pick the best for my open mic sets. And, I have no doubt that number will go way up the more I use it. The lectures are direct and to the point with enough examples to make it easy to understand without feeling redundant. The lack of superfluous filler makes it very easy for us folks with ADD to maintain interest. Plus, Greg's personality makes learning this material a pleasant experience.

I was already doing stand up comedy before taking this class and I feel like I had already found my own way to work. But whenever I feel stuck, I listen to Greg Dean and I am able to finish my script. He has the perfect secret recipe that works every time, as long as you put a lot of efforts into it.

Good delivery of material. Clear delivery. Greg Dean is well-versed in his knowledge of the comedy structure. The course is a video of Greg teaching students in class with a few slides for emphasis. For this subject, that presentation worked fine. The only (small) negative is that some of the examples given in his class are specific to California. Those living outside the state may struggle with the references that seem obvious to those living in Cali but the meanings are plain enough by inference.

Would have liked to hear a few samples of his own jokes..... Otherwise the course was a true eye opening on the mechanics of jokes and tools oferred to create jokes on demand....
