Not much informations. Topic of the course could've been explaind in one 10 - 20 min video. Rest of the course is just about MySQL Query writing.

This course is exactly what I was looking for. A quick intro on how to use python and mysql. No hype, no fancy "lookit this kewl new web ap we can use" (that will disappear in a month and not work with the course because critical info was changed in 2 weeks) -- just the basics of how to install mysql and get the thing up and running. Short and to the point.

Great intro course to setting up mysql with python. I would have liked to see a lesson on how to select data from mysql and format to be used in data frame type variables for python code to truly fill the need of switching from a spreadsheet style database to mysql that is utilized in a python program.

It's hard to give a good or bad score because the teacher has many qualifications and charisma. Sometimes provides the impression that he is improvising the lesson but that it's part of his style and course fluency. I don't give five stars because, as a Linux user, I had to search by myself for the installation process. Also, starting to work on a project where I had to develop a database, I found many gaps in the course. Of course, it is a fast course, but I was hoping to finish this course with more knowledge. I only recommend the course if you are a windows user and want a charismatic introduction to MySQL.

The instructor has a VERY sloppy coding style. He shows how to make a connection to a database but his code simply assumes that it worked (this is something that can fail and should be tested in code). He said he always sets the length of VARCHARs to 255 (sloppy and inefficient), named his query variable "sqlStuff" (what's wrong with a name that says what it is like, erm, "query"?), and at the point admitted to not knowing the difference between CHAR and VARCHAR data types, I'd had enough. "Trust me" he said, "just use VARCHARS". Not if you want to learn to code properly you shouldn't. He seems like a nice guy but I used to be an IT Manager and based on his attitude here this guy would be cleaning out his desk and being escorted out of the building. I will be demanding a refund on this course.

I started this course with intermediate level python experience and ZERO MySQL capabilities. Now, I know at least the basics of MySQL and how to communicate to MySQL database using python. John teaches the course with a nice pace. The lectures are quite legible. I'll definitely recommend it to someone who is starting to use MySQL and need to do a bunch with python at the same time. Good work John! Keep it going. :)
