  • Subtractive synthesis

  • Wavetable synthesis

  • FM (frequency Modulation) synthesis

This course is structured progressively, covering all the building blocks and different methods of synthesis commonly used.
Throughout the course there are animations demonstrating the concepts visually, so you can see as well hear the sound.

There are also example patches available to download that cover common types of sounds such as:

Ben is very clear in his teaching, able to breakdown advanced concepts into very understandable terms. His animations and demonstrations are excellent. I now have a very clear picture concerning the differences between analogue, wave table, and FM synthesis, and have a good understanding of how to use Logic's retro synth. This was one of the best courses I have taken with Udemy and I would highly recommend this.

It's very well presented and my existing knowledge is being augmented already. The tutor, Ben Dudding, presents examples in a way that encourages one to pause the video frequently and try things out for oneself - which is essential to effective learning.

Even though it is basic information, the course covers all of the necessary topics. It is well delivered and combined with excellent graphics and sound examples. This course will provide an solid foundation for the advanced exploration of synthesis. Taking this course will also definitely eliminate a lot of second guessing as to what is going on behind the scenes of synthesizing sound.
