Step by step instructions for formatting and compiling an ebook in Scrivener on both the Windows platform and Mac.

How to download applications to preview your ebook and preview your .epub and .mobi files on them

How to add a prologue and epilogue to your compilation

How to bundle several books together for export as a single eBook

How to manually generate a clickable table of contents for your book

Why take this course?

(Covering both the Windows and the Mac versions of Scrivener)

In this course for self-published authors I am going to show you how to format your own eBook in Scrivener ready to upload it to each of the major online stores.

If you know the very basics of Scrivener you will be able to follow these simple, step-by-step instructions to help you produce a professional quality ebook that meets the requirements of major ebook retailers.

Even if you plan to hire out the formatting of your books, it is important for every author to at least know how to do it, incase you ever want to make a simple change or update to your book after publishing — like adding links to your new books or website.

You don't want to wait days for someone else to schedule you in and charge you for each minor update.

First we're going to go over the specifications for the book cover images that you have to provide for display on the catalogue page on your retailer's website as well as for your internal ebook cover.

Then I'm going to take you step by step through the process of formatting specifically for ebooks — which is somewhat different from formatting for output as a physical document.

You'll learn how to generate a clickable table of contents and how to insert external links to your important places online like your other books and your website.

I'll also cover best practices for inserting images so that your file size does not exceed the limit imposed by some of the retailers.

Once your Scrivener document is nicely formatted I'll show you how to convert it to an ebook using Scrivener’s Compile menu.

Then I'll show you how to download Amazon Kindle Previewer and preview your .mobi file and Adobe Digital Editions to preview your .epub file before you upload them to any of the online stores.

If you're ready to format and convert your own manuscript into an eBook right inside your Scrivener software, go ahead and sign up and I will walk you through the entire process step by step so that you end up with a great eBook — but if you want to check out my teaching style before you decide, feel free to watch a couple of the free previews in the curriculum outline below.

Very useful information. Clearly explained. It is fantastic how there is so much information given in such a timeframe.

I learned some useful facts, but the course is out of date. For example, there is a large section on using KindleGen which is now no longer supported by Amazon. I was a bit disappointed.

This is a really good course for getting started with Scrivener. The Kindle Gen info is outdated, but it's not that complicated to research what to use now instead of Kindle Gen. I would have found more information on metadata useful. Overall, great course for those who need to know how to set up Scrivener to compile an e-book. I wish I'd taken it before I started throwing the text for my short story collection into it.

This course was exceptional! Karen is a wonderful instructor. Each lesson was detailed with instructions and visual examples. She made, what is a complex issue, easy to follow with her step-by-step approach. If I could give her more stars, I would!

The course covered everything it promised to do and the instructor, Karen Prince, was great. I had a number of questions about the difficulties I was facing in using Scrivener for a complicated book project and she was extremely helpful with timely replies. If you need to know how to use Scrivener to compile a book for publication this is a good place to start.

Karen Prince does a great job explaining the compile functions of Scrivener. She speaks clearly & slowly. Easy to follow. This is my third purchased course of Karen's. Plus, if you send her a question, she answers quickly with thorough explanations. Would not hesitate to purchase.

Karen's courses always more value than you pay for, which is why I keep coming back for more! With this course, I was able to learn more advanced tips and tricks for compiling in Scrivener that were perhaps too advanced than those in her Full Scrivener course here on Udemy. If you can only choose one for now, go with the Full Scrivener course, then come back to this one when you can. The Full course will get you up and running, then this more advanced course will help you if you're really a Scrivener or formatting geek!

Karen speaks in a clear voice, slow enough for me to take notes. Her course is for both PC and Mac Users. Her visuals are large and clear and the course covers the subject well.

I resisted using Scrivener for a long time because of the learning curve, but Karen's courses make everything seem easy.

I went through the entire course in one afternoon and found a wealth of details that will help - even though I've formatted two of my own ebooks and several for other writers in the past. Highly recommended.

Karen speaks slowly and clearly so that I don't need to replay the video. I follow along with her on my own Scrivener project at the same time, making sure that watching and doing coincide. A really wonderful course. I have thoroughly enjoyed it!
