Retouching VR Photography with Photoshop and After Effects

In the digital realm, the emergence of spherical panoramas, often referred to as 360º photographs, has become notably prevalent, predominantly on platforms like social media. Their increasing presence beckons the question: how do we advance from merely viewing these spectacular visuals to meticulously refining and augmenting them? This line of thinking is reminiscent of the evolution we witnessed in traditional photography where raw images transitioned to carefully curated masterpieces through skilled editing.

However, editing spherical panoramas is not as straightforward as it seems. The inherent nature of these images deviates from the conventional "flat" photographs that most are accustomed to. When one tries to manipulate these 360º photos using standard photo editing tools, they are presented with images that are "unwrapped", essentially distorting their inherent composition. Given this unique structure, a different, more adaptive workflow becomes essential for editing these specialized panoramas effectively.

This course will show you a step-by-step, non-destructive process, for seamlessly masking out your tripod, applying 2-dimensional artwork into the VR space, retouching, adjusting color, and adding special effects to your photo. 

The software we’ll be using includes the Adobe Creative Cloud versions of both Photoshop and After Effects.
