Course Overview

You will learn the fundamentals of sound, acoustics and what echo is. I will show you practical examples of Bad Audio Recordings, and explain to you what makes them bad. I will demonstrate the most common mistakes, but also show you the best practices for getting good audio in your videos.

We will discuss different Microphone Types, dynamic microphones vs condenser microphones, shotgun mic or lavalier etc. What equipment to use for recording the audio. How to get rid of echo, and improve the room acoustics. Also how to work around background noises and ambience.

Then you will also learn about the importance of articulation and voice projection, and we will talk about learning to control your voice.

You will learn about Noise Reduction, syncing audio and video tracks, and I will also share my personal expert tips from all my years of producing video and audio.

I highly recommend this course!!! Mike does an excellent job presenting a complicated topic in simple, easy to understand chunks. I'm a complete novice with audio recording and now I really do understand it. Mike has a clear passion for his work, and he delivers that passion precisely and concisely throughout the course. His expertise is apparent and he adds his helpful and super-easy tips for how to make excellent audio. I especially appreciated his tutorial on the different types of microphones and how to sync audio from different sources in post-recording processing. Excellent course!

As an instructor, I can only give praise to Mike, his kindness and patience in order to explain - in a very easy and accessible way - the "mysteries of audio"... Some explanations down here are simply... briliant. Well, with this course, we effectively "see" the sound bouncing, how it can massively affect the impact on our audience (rather negatively, if the audio is bad, and positively, if you take the actions recommended by the instructor). I now have valuable "clues" (microphone types, dB levels and so on) and a better understanding on how to enhance the future quality of my audio and thus, gain authority. That is true. Lots of specific instruction in equipment, audio processing, and recording techniques. Great explanation of the different kinds of microphones, and when to use each one. I enjoyed Mike's short course on the audio issues and points that improve the recording. This course should be compulsory as an overview of the audio process, before joining other courses for the detail on specific production systems and audio tools. Mike has a good process to introduce you to the subject, and a good summary of what you have covered at the end of each session. I know he is adding to the course with a checklist document and maybe other resources depending on the requests of students.

The format and structure of this course is clear and concise. Key points are shown on screen throughout the lectures and Mike presented the material in a way that is easy to understand for audio beginners like me. Two key take-aways for me include finally understanding the technical side of audio (specifically the nature and characteristics of sound and what to do with it) and seeing the demonstration of bad audio and good audio. After taking this course, I also now understand what can be edited out and what can't be edited out in the post production phase. I would recommend this course for anyone wishing to take their audio recordings, video tutorials, etc to the next level.
