Why take this course?

Ingres, Gérôme, Delacroix - the most renowned artists of European art history - and especially French ones - were highly concerned with the myth, charm and the supposed otherness of the Orient.

In this course you will get to know their artworks and which cultural perspectives are connected with the imagery of the Oriental. Thereby the individual and political contexts of orientalist art come to light.

I love this course so much and it ties so well with philosophical/government observations by Montesquieu and development of the unfulfilled art nouveau movement.

Der Kurs hat mir gefallen, da er einige Zweifel geklärt hat, um die Werke, die auf realen Elementen basieren könnten, von denen zu unterscheiden, die im Studio entstanden sind. Ich hätte gerne Werke anderer Maler wie Fabio Fabbi, Etienne Dinet und Otto Pilny verwendet. Vielen Dank, dass Sie diesen Kurs erstellt haben. Ich fand ihn sehr nützlich.

It is a very good match. I have always loved the opulence and exoticism of Orientalist art. It began at a very early age, watching Cecil B. de Mille films such as the "Ten Commandments" and "Samson and Delilah"! I loved the processions of exotic paraphinalia and luxurious costumes!

Clear speech, interesting relations between political and art history. How important, that the teacher does not forget to underline social hierarchy within the artworks and the view of the foreign spectator.
