The course so far is helping me to think more about how thing will come together using my plot, plus my character emotions, what she has to overcome how she has to grow, putting aside her insecurity to help those she cares for. Even though it will mean the person she loves will see her in a bad light.

the guy does not tell anything new or interesting, if you've read at least one book in your life, you know it all already

I found Steve's explanations (as always) really useful and practical for creating characters - and for the depth and detail that is required for each depending on their function. The discussion of pro and antagonists was useful to me - particularly if you want them to act as foils for each other, or a successful and tragic version of the same flaw. Great stuff. Looking forward to the next course.

I really enjoyed this, Steve Alcorn presents the information in a clear and concise way. he is easy to listen to and understand. I have a greater understanding of the protagonist and antagonist and how they interact along with the role of allies and enemies.

Although I've written numerous short stories and created many characters, I found this course to be very beneficial. It is a particularly beneficial first step. Many things I have been doing (but didn't realize) were affirmed. Also, many things I learned that I've never done will be helpful as I begin my first novel. I have a tendency to dive in and discover who a character is as I go along. This has worked for me for 5000 to 7000 word stories, but I recognize I need much more planning and structure as I attempt something much longer. Mr. Alcorn's instruction style is pleasant, concise and easy to follow. He provides lots of examples and practical tools. The course exceeded my expectations and I look forward to taking more of his writing courses in the very near future.

I personally found that the majority of information in this course would only be valuable to very new writers. I am not an expert but I'm certainly not new--just a bit rusty, which is why I took the course as a refresh. I wanted to see how the instructor provided "ways to bring your fiction to life," but I instead received a lot of basic information on how to create characters from bio lists (age, gender, hair color, eye color, etc.) as well as creative writing 101 lectures. Most of these tips can be found online for free. For instance, this site is quite good (and quite free): https://www.helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com/resources/ To the instructor: I wish you had delved deeper into flaws and character building instead of generating cliched examples. I also wish the lectures had been longer and perhaps provided advice for the non-typical novel (i.e., the one that isn't simply protagonist v. antagonist).

I like the simple, step-by-step presentation of how to create characters. It also prepares the student to the next step of how to build the structure of your novel. For beginners, this is an good place to start.
