Why take this course?

This hands-on course is designed to teach you how to quickly build apps using the MarkLogic NoSQL database and the XQuery programming language.

You will learn to use core features of the MarkLogic platform including:

  • Architecture and scalability
  • Managing data (XML, JSON, Binaries, text, RDF triples and document metadata)
  • CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete)
  • Performing ACID database transactions
  • Search (including geospatial search, geoencoding, and map integration)
  • Indexes
  • Security (MarkLogic provides a Common Criteria certified security model)

To be successful in the course, students should have familiarity with databases, at least one programming language, and some web development background.  Students should also complete the free prerequisite course on Udemy titled Fundamentals of the MarkLogic NoSQL Database.

The course is designed to be very hands-on. Each video discussion is followed with a hands-on lab.  All the necessary software is free to download and comes with a free developer license.

Course materials including sample data, code examples, and step-by-step instructions for completing the hands-on labs are provided via a free download.

It is difficult to rate this course in one grade. Some parts are quite good but some are really bad. So I just give an average. The course gives you good examples and builds a good example application in the labs. The content about xquery and xpath are good. However later (especially if you have done other courses about MarkLogic) it starts to repeat stuff from other courses. All the information the presenter is giving is also available in the Lab documents and many examples are then used again in the Lab. I personally would recommend to either skip the videos and just read the Lab files (recommended) or skip the Lab. If you do both, you will just do things twice. Other improvement points: Google api example is outdated as the google api now requires an apikey Pictures on the Geospatial are at the wrong axis...

It's a great course, full of good examples that will immediately give me the knowledge to start using XQUERY (+ XPATH).

That's very good, I'm still starting with ML but I think this tutorial is very nice for understanding XQUERY.

Ce qui est super avec ce cours c'est qu'il est axé sur des exemples bien concrets afin de montrer les possibilités de #marklogic, notamment les fonctionalités FLOWR qui peuvent être un très bon substitut au Join de #SQL (nested flower)
