What you will learn

You will learn a bunch of bluegrass licks you thought were too fast to play

Why take this course?

Here's a course that will open the door to bluegrass, country and Celtic music for you.

This will give your skills a huge boost and show you a world of new possibilities!

You will learn some chugging rhythms, some useful scales and how to warm up with them as a starting point.

Then you will see how we can take impossibly fast music, slow it down and learn to play it.

This will be a fun and exciting challenge and your playing will come on leaps and bounds!

There is a backing track so you can practice at three different speeds in lecture 5. It has one minute at a slow speed, one minute at a medium speed and, you guessed it, one minute at a fast pace (75% of the original Buddy version)

Playing country music on the harmonica can be a delightful experience, blending the soulful sounds of the harmonica with the twang and charm of country melodies. To get started, here are some key tips for playing country music on the harmonica:

  1. Choose the right harmonica: Opt for a diatonic harmonica in the key of C. This is a versatile choice that suits most country songs and allows you to play in different keys by using bending techniques.

  2. Master the major scale: Familiarize yourself with the major scale, as it forms the foundation of many country tunes. Practice playing the major scale up and down to develop muscle memory and get comfortable with the harmonica's layout.

  3. Incorporate bending: Bending notes adds expressiveness and character to your country playing. Practice bending the notes in the lower and middle octaves to add a touch of "country wail" to your melodies.

  4. Focus on melody and phrasing: Country music often emphasizes strong melodies and phrasing. Pay attention to the melody of the song you're playing and try to replicate it on the harmonica. Use techniques like tongue blocking or puckering to articulate the notes and add subtle nuances to your playing.

  5. Learn country licks and techniques: Explore popular country harmonica licks and techniques to add authenticity to your playing. Study the playing styles of renowned country harmonica players and incorporate their techniques into your own repertoire.

  6. Practice playing with a band: Country music is often performed with a band, so practice playing along with country songs or jamming with fellow musicians. This will help you develop your timing, dynamics, and ability to fit in with other instruments.

  7. Experiment with different techniques: Don't be afraid to experiment with techniques like vibrato, trills, and chordal playing to add variety and texture to your country harmonica playing.

Remember, playing country music on the harmonica is about capturing the essence of the genre and infusing it with your own unique style. With practice, dedication, and a heartfelt love for country music, you'll be well on your way to playing soulful country tunes on the harmonica. Keep honing your skills, and let the harmonica become your trusty companion on your country music journey.

Yes I like taking Ben's courses, he usually delivers, he's humorous, breaks down stuff accurately and makes it easy to learn and he is affordable for me. And I like the genre's of music he teaches, blues, country, blue grass, pop, folk, etc.

the best so far. as a white guy, country music is more my thing than blues, tho nothing wrong there either. bluegrass and Irish are very closely related. love it.
