Awful language. Often couldn't understand what instructor was trying to pronounce and transcripts clearly automated and didn't understand him either, as presented utter gobbledegook. Anyone with any hearing difficulties would not be able to understand this course as transcript is so off the mark.

There are some cases where things are abbreviated, I'd like to know what those things are in more detail

Not a very good trainer. Fairly good job on the basics but then he flipped into high gear and left me wondering about so much of the topic.

Lecturer is talking too fast in places. It is hard to make out some of the critical words. The accent is not helping.

What is an A record, how and when i use it and when i should not use it. What is an NS record, how and when i use it and when i should not use it What is an MX record, how and when i use it and when i should not use it This is the things I was expecting to learn from this course. I am sorry. disapponited.

Provided basic info that was helpful in understanding domains. I have to manage DNS settings for our company domain and I didn't understand some settings. I would like to an expanded course that covers more record types.

Some great stuff in this course, but plenty room to tighten it up and improve. To mind the sections on the DNS resolution process, BIND delegation and DNS spoofing were the highlights of the course. However much of the course was let down by its delivery. At least 3 obvious typos in the text. The only live demo seemed like it was a bit ad-hoc, most of the course it seemed like the instructor was reading from a script and in the dialog really struggled. However there are a few times in the course when the instructor doesn't seem like he's reading a script and it flows great. Overall the instructor knows his stuff, but could definitely improve course delivery.

Explanation about difference between zone and domain is not completely clear. Maybe a more graphical explanation should be provided. Besides, some record types like PTR should also be explained at least for completeness. Although, the lecturer mention them, since they were not explained them, it forced me to find out more about their purpose. Maybe a short document can be downloaded or a glossary should be provided. The example about primary and secondary DNS servers and DNS Spoofing are quite pedagogic. The lecturer seems to be very knowledge about its topic. Sometimes his accent makes me a little difficult to understand him, buy it is OK, nobody unless it is a native speaker will do it better.

Good basic DNS examples. Examples are basic but very good for the novice. I liked how DNS SEC was explained.

This is a good overview of DNS. It is good place to start to begin before you do a deep dive on the subject.

UPDATING to handle Udemy's bad review formatting. :-) <br /> Summary: This course is a **very brief** introduction only, and should be seen as that! The course title is misleading: you don't actually set up or manage a domain here. I would say this course is worth it for people who are curious about DNS, but who don't intend to actually work with it. For those who will work with DNS, or will actually set up and manage domains, maybe speed through this course at double-speed, and then start to work on a hands-on tutorial. <br /> This review reflects my expectations for this course that I got from the course title. I was hoping that through hands-on work, and my own independent study, I would be able to have a reasonable conversation about DNS with a networking pro, say, with enough grasp of the fundamentals to not feel completely ignorant. At the moment, I don't feel comfortable with it. <br /> The course does cover some basics about DNS, and it's nice to be led gently through some basic things. I still don't feel I really understand DNS. Some examples: <br /> a) If I read http://www.zytrax.com/books/dns/, I come across a pile of terms that show that I still don't have a good fundamental grasp of the subject. b) I'm not clear just yet how NS records are used in the name resolution process - a question which I've posted to the instructor in a class! c) while I know about zones and domains, I wouldn't be able to explain what they are, **really**, if I was asked. <br /> In short, this course tells me that I need to look further on my own. I guess that's true of any tech class, but from the course title I had hoped that this would let me tackle the zytrax site on my own, and would give me a solid handhold on the material. <br /> I think the instructor is quite good, but it's hard to judge after just 1 hr. He has been responding very promptly to my extensive questions, which is **very nice**! He is certainly easy to listen to, and his slides are easy. <br /> This course would greatly benefit from a lab, and actually setting up and poking around at a bind server. Also a quiz or two would be nice. <br /> I'm glad I've finished this course, at least it got me started investigating this topic which has been on my radar for a long time. Thanks, jz

If you want to learn the basics of DNS in a very short time, this is a fine way to do so. The course only takes an hour or so and touches on the key concepts of DNS.

I liked the course it helped teach me the foundations of DNS. I probably would not pay for a course that was only an hour long though. Especially because Udemy has so many deals throughout the year. I would prob get a more advanced DNS course or even a course that had DNS and other topics included.

I knew the basic of DNS and what it does but this course goes farther past just the basics and shows you how DNS really works.

Learning about Dig was very much worth the time, along with learning about the basics of DNS. Hope to see more videos in the future.
