What you will learn

7 amazing shortcuts to professional improvising using only 5 notes which all live in the C scale

How to easily improvise in 7 keys on a C harmonica

How to transfer that knowledge to all other diatonic harmonicas

Why take this course?

Are you ready to break free from the constraints of sheet music and let your harmonica become a vessel for your creative expression?

Improvisation is the key to unlocking the true power of the harmonica and infusing your playing with a personal touch that is uniquely yours.

Do you want to play with your favourite music, or with a band?

Of course.

So do I. That's why we play music.

But it can be a jungle - what do we do? What key is the music? Which harmonica to use?

Here I will give you seven precise paths through that jungle in this course and also five directional signposts to help you.

After this you should have a good handle on basic improvising on the C harmonica in all 12 keys.

You can also transfer all this to all the other 11 keys of diatonic harp as well so it's gold dust!

When it comes to improvisation, the harmonica is a versatile instrument that allows you to explore a world of musical possibilities. Here are some essential tips to help you on your improvisational journey:

  1. Master the basics: Before you can soar into improvisation, it's important to have a solid foundation of harmonica skills. Familiarize yourself with scales, chords, and techniques like bending and vibrato. This knowledge will provide a canvas for your improvisational artistry.

  2. Embrace the blues: The blues is the heart and soul of harmonica playing. Its raw emotion and expressive nature make it the perfect starting point for improvisation. Learn the blues scale and practice jamming along with blues backing tracks to develop your improvisational skills.

  3. Listen and learn: Immersing yourself in different musical styles and listening to harmonica legends will expand your musical vocabulary. Pay attention to how they use phrasing, dynamics, and rhythm in their improvisations. Let their influence inspire your own improvisational journey.

  4. Trust your instincts: Improvisation is all about trusting your musical intuition and going with the flow. Let go of self-doubt and fear of making mistakes. Embrace the moment, and allow your harmonica to guide you on a spontaneous musical adventure.

  5. Practice, practice, practice: Improvisation is a skill that develops over time. Dedicate regular practice sessions to improvising. Start with simple melodies and gradually add complexity. With each session, you'll gain confidence and fluency in creating improvised harmonica solos.

Remember, improvisation is about expressing yourself and embracing the joy of spontaneous musical creation. So, grab your harmonica, let your creative spirit soar, and watch as your playing takes on a whole new dimension of artistry and personal flair.

Keep exploring, keep experimenting, and let your harmonica become a conduit for your musical imagination.

Happy improvising!

I had originally given a lower rating due to a problem with how videos played in the Chrome browser and a missing jam track. EDIT 7/1/2019: Ben quickly replaced the missing MP3I had noted. Clearing the Chrome browser cache resolved the video problem I had encountered so all is now well with respect to the course content and I have updated my rating.
