What you will learn

Japanese Art and Design

Increased appreciation of Art

The course promotes self-learning.

The course seeks to enrich your life experience.

Why take this course?

Welcome to this course on Japanese Art and Design. Japanese art covers a wide range of art styles and media, including ancient pottery, sculpture, ink painting and calligraphy on silk and paper, ukiyo-e paintings and woodblock prints, and ceramics. A common denominator is an exquisite sense and sensibility of art and design that is unique in the world.

I teach lecture courses and studios as I wish they would have been taught to me. Much of the graphic material in my lectures is taken or generated first hand directly by me on site. I teach to learn. I teach subjects as I wish they were taught to me. The Mission Statement. Education is a tool for the improvement of successive generations. I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. Confucius

This course is designed under the premise that humans should be taught in a way that is modeled after the educational patterns of evolution.

The design, development and application of educational systems based on the educational principles of evolution generates a philosophy and methodology of education in synchrony with the evolutionary education system that is firmly and deeply rooted in each of us.

Education for evolution is an educational system designed to help propel humans forward in the natural course of evolution. The purpose of education for evolution is to enhance and strengthen the natural evolutionary process of humans through the mechanism of education. The means to achieve this objective is the design of a curricula based on the same educational techniques and strategies used by natural evolution, enhanced and guided by the application of conscious educational decisions.

This is the third course I have taken by Federico von Borstel. I wanted to get closer to learning more about Japanese garden architecture, so I took the Japanese garden design course, then the Japanese Architecture course, and finally the Japanese art and design course. I must say that I am very satisfied with all three courses. The teacher always holds the student's attention with content that also covers Japanese culture and philosophy. Five stars well deserved!

I have been interested in Japanese art and design since I was a kid, and as a graphic design student I hope to incorporate what I know into my work, so I was looking forward to checking out this course. It was fascinating, though I thought that it was a bit too short. I personally would have preferred something longer and more in depth. I did have issues with the audio, though. I found that the volume of the teacher was too low, and sometimes the background music was too loud. Overall, I did get a bit of a review on Japanese art and design, and I think that it's a decent course for beginners to Japanese Art and Design..

The course covers basic concepts of Japanese art for thousands of years. The instructor guides us through the main stages and with many examples. The course is enjoyable and the teacher knows a lot about the subject. I recommend this course.

I'll definitely watch this again. I liked the presenters sensibility and the works he featured. I'm not so interested in the early architecture parts of the course but I appreciate the presenter bringing it to my attention and attempting to stimulate my interest in Japanese architecture. Thank you very much Federico and may you continue to share your knowledge and wisdom for a long, long time!

The course covered a lot of phases and included tons of information on the japanese art and design progress from the earliest ages to the present. Therefore, I think it would have been a better course if it was spreaded out at least onto 4 hours instead of two so certain parts could get some more attention. Also, I think it is a great experience to have personal photographs from the mentor in the presentation from his journeys to the areas which are covered in this course, but it would enhance the learning experience if he were to include some videos or presentations from other sources. Also I think it would benefit everyone if instead of one photograph per slide, the mentor introduced maybe several examples of a certain period or style, as well as different periods side by side so we can see how the art progressed or regressed over the years. Overall a fun and thoughtful experience, highly recommend

It was a superficial yet interesting course. The background music was sometimes too loud to understand the lecture. In part 8 it is almost impossible to understand the teacher. It may lack depth to the subjects but it peaked my interest about learning further more. Thank you.
