What you will learn

To understand and use the basic concepts of statistics

To perform the descriptive analysis of data

To estimate statistical parameters in the population

To perform comparisons between two or more groups using t tests and ANOVA

To perform comparisons between two or more sets of repeated measures using t tests and ANOVA

To understand and perform correlation analysis of data

To build simple and multiple predictive models using linear regression

Why take this course?

In this course you will learn about: basic concepts of statistics (quantification, variables & constants, samples, and populations, randomness, and representativeness, parameters and statistics, units of analysis, databases), scales of measurement (the nominal, the ordinal, the interval, and the ratio scale) and types of variables (continuous & discrete, parametric & nonparametric), how to convert one type of scale into another, basic description of the data (mean, median, mode, range, variance, standard deviation), theoretical & real distributions, standardization (the Z scores), the normal distribution and its properties, hypothesis testing, the probability of the null hypothesis, the Z test, the t-test and the t distributions, the confidence intervals, the independent samples t-test, the repeated measures t-test, the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) for independent samples and repeated measures, the Pearson correlation, the simple and the multiple linear regression.

In all presentations, the focus is moved from mathematical aspects to basic principles behind each statistical procedure, so that each topic is very easy to understand. The rhythm of the presentation is well calibrated to facilitate the understanding of each new concept.

Each section is followed by several exercises in which you can consolidate your newly acquired knowledge. In addition, you will receive for each section the tables with critical values for your statistical indicators and a document with all exercises resolved to check if you work correctly.

Good luck on your way to becoming an expert in Statistics!

It gives a good in-depth understanding of what is going on, mathematically, I was hoping for more information on the side of interpretation, what best to focus on and how to formulate descriptive sentences around the finindgs.

This could easily be user error. I was expecting to learn more about the terms used by statisticians before applying them in spoon-fed examples. This course is not that. The student has to have a general understanding of some elementary statistics terms to get full value out of this presentation.

Initially it was okay but many cases I see the information is not in detail. Even for the calculation as well. Must show the calculation as well in the slides rather than taking reference. Since, the enrollment is at beginner level concepts and the reason to apply should have been elaborated in a better way.

I really appreciate how the course is designed to understand the basics of statistics with no previous knowledge. I was able to understand all the concepts very well, and this knowledge will further help me learn more advanced concepts in statistics. I wish there were multiple exercise problems to work with but overall a great course.

The instructor presented the information in a very understandable way for me as a person without statistical knowledge.

Excellent, well explained course. Indeed, I now UNDERSTAND what I thought I knew (that's the problem of learning mechanically). I found only a few little discrepancies in some numbers in certain exercises, but that did not affect the content, as the subject was already well covered. I'm just applying immediately what I have learned for me and my students. Hope we have soon the next part to cover qualitative variables and a few more useful statistical tests. Congratulations!

so far, things are being explained step by step and at a slow pace. For the first time i am understanding things i have always known

I think this course is a very useful tool for beginners in statistics or anyone who wants to review one's knowledge regarding data analysis. I really loved the structure of this course and the clear examples used by the author for making the concepts more accessible for everyone. Another big plus of this course is the diversity of the statistical tests presented which offer the student tools for data analysis.

As it's a free course, only basics and theory is explained. Yes, anyone who is from non stats can gain basics from here.
