What you will learn

Gain an understanding of the fundamental concepts within quantum physics.

Develop the mathematical skills required to appreciate high-level physics.

Apply knowledge of quantum mechanics to predict and explain physical phenomena.

Be able to grasp famous quantum mechanical paradoxes such as Schrodinger's cat and tunnelling.

Understand the role of the wave function in quantum phenomena and calculations.

Gain the necessary foundations to study further topics such as quantum computation and particle physics.

Why take this course?

Introduction to Quantum Mechanics is an accessible and to-the-point journey through the most famous theory in science.

With 6.5 hours of video lectures, detailed typeset notes and a multitude of interesting problems with worked solutions, this course is for anyone interested in learning quantum physics and gaining fluency in the mathematics that holds the theory together. Concepts are introduced in a logical order at a tangible pace and are explained in detail within lectures and summarised within the notes.

Quantum Mechanics is the intellectual cornerstone of the 20th century.

After completing the course, you will have a detailed understanding of quantum physics. Quantum physics is a triumphant theory, first formulated in the 1920s, that explains the behaviour of nature at the smallest scales, including the interactions of sub-atomic particles, and paved the way for influential technologies such as the transistor and the LED display. The theory was the first indication that the macroscopic world we experience each day is inconceivably different from that of microscopic particles.

Material is presented in an intelligent manner to help advanced concepts appear straightforward.

The course material is equivalent to that taught within a first-year undergraduate physics course but is presented in a clear and cogent fashion to allow for easier digestion. Problems have been written to a similar level but adjusted to include only the mathematics taught within the course.

Outstanding introductory course! Explanations are clear and concise. Good introduction to mathematics of quantum mechanics. Most other "introductory" courses are either purely qualitative and don't really explain the "why", or they are too rigorous and it is very difficult to follow the math. This course only requires basic calculus and leads you step by step through the math with no skipped steps. At the end of this course you will understand the mathematical explanations behind Heisenberg's uncertainty principle and quantum tunnelling. Highly recommended!

Très bon cours. La matière est expliquée de manière efficace et systématique, à l'aide d'exemples relativement simples mais néanmoins très pertinents.

The course will be more interesting if you made the first lecture about Quantum Physics in general, before jumping into math and physics. I just started this course and I will come back and edit my rating.

Simple enough and not too simple (for me). Using the "Resources", one can get a bit deeper into things if one wishes so.

Would you believe it or not , after around 15 years I abonded Physics -just while I began writing my graduation thesis on alpha particles' scattering- down there are mainly 2 things that drove me back to that "road"- First one is what recently happened at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California US meaning first time ever successful termonuclear fusion and second one is just your course! So very well done you, brilliant way to teach, and I'd say Warwick University should also be proud of having such a student (guess Doctor now). If in the future you'll realease any course about general relativity and/or with some regards to Stephen Hawing's theory of everything-well...looking forward to!-keep on goin this way James - congratulations & thank you!

It was very good material. A suggestion on my iPhone it it would be very helpful if I could display your screen sideways to see more.

I have always been fascinated by physics and I learned a lot from this course. The math part helps to get a good grip of the topics explained by the teacher.

This course is really amazing. It's highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn about quantum mechanics. The instructor explained everything step-by-step quite clearly (he is one of the best instructors I've found on Udemy!) Really enjoyed learning it!
