Introduction

I had a job interview in 2014 where I was asked what is Bitcoin. All I could say back then was that Bitcoin was “Internet Pirate Gold” because of a documentary I had seen on the Silk Road. Fortunately my answer was satisfactory at the time and I got the job. Throughout the next few years I would learn more about the blockchain.

In a nutshell:

Bitcoin allows for a number to be securely transferred between addresses. The sender subtracts this number from their total and the receiver adds this number to their total. There is a rule that prevents the sender from sending a number larger than their total.
Ethereum allows for more complex logic to be securely carried out. Various applications can be built and a range of different types of tokens can be created and transferred, such as an NFT.

Both Bitcoin and Ethereum use a blockchain for security reasons, however this comes at a huge computing cost and so high fees are needed to complete transactions securely.

Fortunately for us new technology has emerged which allows us to enjoy the security of the blockchain without the high fees. The Polygon Network can do all the complex logic of Ethereum at a fraction of the cost.

Technically, Polygon is a protocol and a framework for building and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks. Aggregating scalable solutions on Ethereum supporting a multi-chain Ethereum ecosystem.

But this course is for people who want to use blockchain and don’t necessarily want to understand exactly how it works.

I had a hard time with giving a rating. I don't want to rate down MJ, he is obviously good at this and knows what he is talking about. I tried to learn crypto a few times but I either fell asleep or just stopped early on. I forced myself to stay awake during this nearly 1.5 hours, but honestly I have no clue what I was listening to. I thought crypto is some sort of banking thing where I buy currencies, but instead of, say, euro or dollar or pound, I buy som crypto thing and it's value will go up and I get rich. Instead, I buy some stupid artwork with a monkey smoking a cigarette and keep selling and buying it and ether and plutonium or polygon or whatever and this and that and frankly I concluded this whole thing is not for me. I used to play in the sand, carve things in wood, shoot bows and arrows, jump into a puddle during rain, run barefoot in the grass, listen to the ocean waves, etc. But now, I'm staring onto a screen with literally no meaning and buying an image of a monkey smoking a cigarette. And when the electricity goes out or my internet is out, I don't have any monkey to look at. I don't get all this. So my only conclusion that I got out of all this is that I'm not looking forward to the future AT ALL. I gave it a 4 star because I didn't want to disappoint MJ. As I said he seems to be very knowledgeable so it's not his fault that I'm stupid, LOL. Anyhow, thanks for the course. Now I have to go outside and jump into a few puddles because it's raining...
