** Udemy Top Seller **  Courses by this instructor are consistently listed in Top Selling Music Courses.

This course is "5-Star Certified" by the International Association of Online Music Educators and Institutions (IAOMEI). This course has been independently reviewed by a panel of experts and has received a stellar 5-star rating.

This is a class designed for music producers who are ready to get serious about drum programming. The art of programming drums on a MIDI grid, in drum machines, or with audio files can be tricky to master, but when you finish this class, your tracks will have the extra energy that comes from professional drum tracks.

100% Answer Rate! Every single question posted to this class is answered within 24 hours by the instructor.

Dr. Allen is a professional musician, top-rated Udemy instructor, and university professor. In 2017 the Star Tribune featured him as a "Mover and a Shaker," and he is recognized by the Grammy Foundation for his music education classes.

I'll be using Ableton Live and some Logic in this course, but it will be easy to following along on whatever program you are most comfortable with. We will start the class off with basic rhythm theory, and learning where (typically) we put the kick, the snare, and the hi-hats. Then we will learn to adapt that pattern to work for a number of different styles.

DRUM PROGRAMMING MASTERCLASS, COMPLETE is a comprehensive class - that means there are three (3!) different classes that together make the complete sequence. This is the COMPLETE sequence and includes all of parts 1, 2, and 3.

Also in the class, we will be doing a number of analysis projects. That just means we will load up some tracks, and re-construct the beat in the track. Doing this will help us to see how those beats are built and guide us in making our own beats.

Praise for Courses by Jason Allen:

⇢  "It seems like every little detail is being covered in an extremely simple fashion. The learning process becomes relaxed and allows complex concepts to get absorbed easily. My only regret is not taking this course earlier." - M. Shah

⇢  "Great for everyone without any knowledge so far. I bought all three parts... It's the best investment in leveling up my skills so far.." - Z. Palce

⇢  "Excellent explanations! No more or less than what is needed." - A. Tóth

⇢  "VERY COOL. I've waited for years to see a good video course, now I don't have to wait anymore. Thank You!" - Jeffrey Koury

I know you can do the same thing in many different ways, but this course seems like it's going against Ableton's strengths: author works in arrangement instead of session view, and uses poor quality samples from freesound.org, while Ableton has tons of great midi instruments and samples by default. Difference in audio levels between voice and music is too big, some lessons have very noticeable background hum, etc. There are some valuable hints and insights here, but in my opinion the full price is too much. If you plan on buying this, I'd recommend waiting for a sale.

Well, there's a lot to say here. Unfortunately, not too positive. In my humble opinion as a musician and a producer, I will note 3 things that led me to leave a 2-star rating. 1. This was the worst of all 3, the sound levels of the music played and the speech was so different, that I had to watch with one hand on the volume control of my keyboard so I could quickly lower down when the music hit so loud that my neighbors were probably cursing at me. And then I had to quickly take the volume up, so I would be able to hear something from the teacher's voice. This is purely unprofessional and disappointing to me. There is a dramatic difference, not just a couple of dB. There goes 1 star. 2. Star number 2 went with the presentation of your course. Masterclass, Complete... well, I felt this like part 1. And that there should be at least 2 more parts going in-depth into beatmaking. Also, why would the same introduction repeat for each session (1, 2, and 3), those are 19 minutes that repeat thrice, for what? To make the course look bigger than it actually is? Not cool... 3. Last but not least, throughout the whole course it just felt like you made this in total improvisation with no preparation and taking care of the detail whatsoever. Using some really bad sounds to make the beats, and using some non-similar samples to reproduce famous beats, making them sound nothing alike. This is something I dislike a lot. I would've personally preferred that you've taken care of those things beforehand and prepared appropriate drum kits to use for your workshop. Well... I learned a few useful things, but I wouldn't call it a Masterclass. Since mastery is in the details, and those were extremely neglected here. I wouldn't recommend this course to a beginner, although the author has some other courses that are much better, this one is not...

This was a great course. It was great to listen to the teacher's explanations. I look forward to the continuation of the course!

Good introductory course. Helped fill in some gaps for me. There's a bunch of reviewers complaining that this course is not a "masterclass" because its not "master level"; that's not what masterclass means. A masterclass is a course taught by a master. J certainly seems to fit that bill.

grid size is hard to see in some videos and some time you quickly change them so its like ahh wait rewind

Pretty much exactly what I expected. It definitely helps me understand some nuances that were driving me up a wall about making drums for my music.

It was a pleasure to follow jasons instructions. Evolving genres from a basic structure helps a lot to recall them. Very useful course! :-)

This course is definitely not a masterclass, - it's more of a course for complete beginners. Teacher gives decent explanation, examples are good and plentiful, plus there's a lot of opportunity to practice (especially if you've got Ableton). There's two problems though: course is too shallow for a steep price of 75$ (it should be more like 20-30 in my opinion), - and it covers only drums, that's it. You're going to learn how to create nice beat patterns and analyse said patterns on various genres, but you're not going to learn how to design your own drums, how to sample in more intricate ways than just cropping the sample, plus the FX and sound design part is touched so lightly I'd say they were never actually covered. Oh, and the voice of the teacher is too quiet compared to music examples, - so headphone warning, I guess.

I felt the voice of instructor was lower then the music playing. always had to adjust volume when he would talk, had to turn it up and turn volume down when the drums were playing.

This was a good course. The content was not geared for me as the styles covered are not what I do. That being said, the techniques used can be applied.

Die ersten zwei Kapitel waren langweilig. Der Kurs scheint aber sehr umfangreich zu sein. Der Dozent geht auf die Fragen der Teilnehmer ein. Es ist etwas früh, schon eine Bewertung abzugeben.

This course is more for beginners, I expected slightly advanced topics e.g: - how to select drum samples which work nice together? - mixing aspects of drums, panning, compression? - how to create nice percussion loops by my own?

If I could have asked for a refund, I would have. First of all, this is a course to learn how to make electronic music beats, not to learn how to program drum patterns into a sequencer (there really is nothing about that), and it is not a masterclass but aimed to total beginners instead. The lessons seem improvised, as if performed live, with no preparation beforehand and with much wasted time and long moments of silence or useless video. Unless you are completely unfamiliar with music and sequencers, the entire first part and much of the second part can safely be avoided. In-depth studies are useful, but they are few and not at all explained. At least a third of the video material is an introduction to something that is then explained in a few minutes. I expected more, especially more professionalism, as this is the most unprofessional course I evere stumbled onto and it is hard to believe that the teacher is actually a pro.

I came for reggae but no reggae patterns were shown. Anyway, nice tips, I learnt some new stuff and purchased two more lessons from Jason. Looking forward to finalize my music ideas
