Why take this course?

This step-by-step course will teach you how to create your own plugin for WordPress using methods that are being used for WordPress pluging Development by industry experts. When you are finished with the course you will know how to create a fully functional Plugin that is created with PHP, HTML, CSS and AJAX and uses data we get from the New York Times using an API!

Over 2 hours of video in which you will learn everything you need to know to get you started with creating plugins. I will tot only teach how to create a plugin but also what to do and what not to do. But there is more. We are working with an Application Programming Interface (API). With that API we fetch real time data from the New York Times and show that on our website. With the techniques you learn, you can build your own plugin, with an admin page, front-end widget or shortcodes. You can even get data from other API's out there, like Twitter or Facebook. I know the whole idea of creating a plugin can be overwhelming, do do not hesitate to contact me, i will make sure I guide you and help you. If you are not pleased with the content, you can ask for a 100% refund, no questions asked.

For this course you will need a basic understanding of HTML, CSS and PHP. This course will not teach you how to write PHP but how to create a WordPress plugin with PHP.

The course content is good and my project worked. The presentation was a little frustrating because as you follow along a half hour later he lets you know he made a mistake and makes a couple quick changes and continues along rather than re-recording the parts with the mistakes. This isn't a huge deal, just frustrating because backtracking and re-editing took me probably more time than it would have taken him just to record the spots with the errors correctly. I still learned a lot and am building my own WordPress plugin even as I write this reveiw

Generally good information but hasn't been updated for Gutenberg. Also should mention some default parameters. When debugging is turned on, the "finished code" throws a lot of errors both in the admin and the widget area, because it's trying to call data that hasn't been saved yet. These could be errors introduced due to the age of the tutorials as well. It's definitely informative to get started but doesn't cover everything you should need to complete a polished plugin.

It’s confusing. It should explain and show exactly What we are doing first I mean the goal and after that starting the code. I’m doing but I don’t know what’s gonna be the result then I am just keep going on to see what’s happening.

Great tutorial, learned a lot and will apply it to my project. The only thing that needs updating is the New York Times API interface has changed since recording but you can figure this out by clicking around a bit. Much appreciated, bargain. Thank you.

Great course! Straight to the point, good explanations, and covers everything you need to build plugin from scratch. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn how to develop Wordpress plugins. That said... this is not a beginner level course... you should really be familiar with WordPress or at the very least php in order to really understand what is going on.

The Instructor was very experienced and keen about the subject, explained everything in detailed and made the sessions short and good which keeps motivating to learn more and more.

I'm halfway through the course and the reason I chose it is because it specifically works with a third party API, which is right up my alley of what I need to learn. I'm finding the course easy to understand and to follow, the instructor is clear and is not in a rush. He explains what the code means and sticks to naming conventions while also practicing good security, which was a concern I had until a particular lesson talked about how we would avoid potential hackers. I am not following along using the NYT API, I'm using the API of the site I'll be using. There are minor differences in how I have to tackle the code but anyone with common sense and a good eye will be able to easily adjust the course to their needs. I'm hoping this course will fulfill everything I'm looking for.

Really clear, great balance of walking through and coding in person. Very useful and I've been able to write my own plugin along the way watching the demo plugin be written.

I don't recommend this course for beginners. It's better suited for someone who has already spent a time learning about WP development but even then it can be difficult to follow along at times. The pace of the course is very fast and the author doesn't explain many things about what he does. That said, if you follow all of the steps given in the course you will have a functioning and interesting plugin. But you may not understand all of the code you wrote or why you wrote it.

I can barely hear the lecture on my laptop speakers. I needed to use an external speaker to hear him clearly. The other thing I notice is the instructor makes mistakes. I don't understand why this happens when you can rerecord lectures. It is distracting to see obvious mistakes.

With some simple video editing, mistakes could've been edited out completely, rather than being pointed out with an added message. The quiz contains silly answers. The instructor uses 'require' as a function like such: "require('somefile.php');". But the official php docs clearly state that the preferred usage is like a statement: "require 'somefile.php'". I'm also not sure why the instructor insists on using negative stuff like 'isis' and 'donald trump' as example input for this plugin. However, the course as a whole was still worth the 12 bucks. It's a short, simple, to the point course that will get you quick started with wp plugin development. What I had hoped to learn was covered and turned out to be easier than I had anticipated. I've been wanting to be able to customize my own wp installation for a long time. Look like I am going to apply what I have learned pretty soon when building my own first wp plugin!

Very good so far, but not sure if I am going to be able to create wp plugins on my own or just copy the one he made for us. The important thing is the everything he is showing us works, and we are not being fed bogus info. And it's really good that he is going back and correcting naming conventions, as this is precisely why many of these online classes fail. He is a great web dev teacher, looking forward to more wp classes with him.
