Why take this course?

( Now includes Blender 4.0 and higher updates)

This course was created to help students or anybody learn the full game animators pipeline from Blender to Unreal. You will learn how to create a professional custom animation rig, and animate by hand, a full set of idle, transition and movement animations, and how to export correctly, and bring them all into the Unreal engine.

From there you will learn how to set up an animation graph and character blueprint, and create a custom character controller that will allow you to walk, run, crouch, jump and more. No experience required, the full process is walked through in easy to follow steps broken down into logical sections, each building on the last, with lots of tips and tricks to make your animations work correctly as a complete set as used in a modern AAA game.

No coding knowledge is required as everything will be created in Unreal's blueprint system using nodes, just simply follow along and build up the character controller bit by bit, and by the end of the course, you will have a fully playable character that can move around the game world, with the satisfaction and knowledge that you created the whole thing from scratch.

So lets get started!

5 stars for this course are too few to rate! Why is that? Do I exaggerate and sound a little more enthusiastic than normal? Well let me explain. I am a hobbyist game developer. I have several courses and books on how to do things in blender but not one on how to make a rig compatible with game engines. How do artists make rigs and animations like the ones we download from Mixamo and other sources? Well this course got you covered. - We start with the rigging part where the tutor makes a rig and the control bones. I suggest you have a physical paper notebook to write down every step. There are many and its easy to lose your way. That's how rigging just goes. But the tutor explains very well. - The weight paint part is naturally more like a "feel" rather than steps and the tutor shows us some tricks on how to locate if any "rogue" vertice breaks your paint. Also explains some useful settings on the tools. - The animation part is huge and it speaks for itself in the promo video. I have done the idle part and I am very satisfied on how the tutor shows us how blender manages animations. I wanted to rate because it will take me several months to complete the course but I want people to read this review before I finish it. That's how much I am satisfied. For a game developer that looks to do his own animations for their models, this course is more than enough!

Instructor is just saying the things he's doing, not explaining or elaborating on why anything is the way that it is. If the video were muted it would be exactly as useful.

I decided to follow along with my own model. I had some little issues (with IK bones which caused twisting on my model's ankles) that caused me to bang my head on the wall, however, I managed to solve them by testing out some settings. This course is very good and helps build an understanding of rigging characters from scratch and animating. It'd be 5 stars if the instructor gave some options on some of the parts of the lectures (such as using addons etc. for rigging, saving hours of time). Still not finished with the course so my review might update!

blender part : 4.5 unreal engine Part : 3.5 lack of explanation. and I think the instructor should explain the variables one by one and add the variables.

Perfect course for anyone who's interested in how the whole animation pipleline works in games, even for seasoned developers because there are always parts of the pipeline that you are not that familiar with.

The information is very good, but some inconsistencies in delivery make it difficult to follow along sometimes. Overall, I'm pleased so far.

Man I'll have to be level with you. Your voice and the audio quality makes the lecture really hard to follow. I need to have 2 big coffees and only finish a few lectures a day before it becomes toxic. Just please try sound more welcoming and energetic next time. As for the lectures, just try to leave some breathing room for the students in each one and don't rush to the end every time. There is a fine line between a course and a copy paste video. Most of the instructors only know how to make copy paste videos and not a course. I believe you can be different. Hope you'll get my point sometimes in the future

I've always struggled with understanding the complete process of animation, but this course makes it easy and digestible to understand. Would recommend 10/10

First, this course for me personally fills a gap in my knowledge of combining Blender with a game engine in the topic of character animation. I was really waiting for something like this. At the time of writing, I have the impression there are fewer quality animation courses for Blender compared to the number of modelling courses. So a quality animation course that also exports to a game engine is a great discovery for me! On top of this, the teacher of this course has professional experience with game animation, so this course is a real gem! While I'm watching the videos I enjoy the thoughtful process that goes into each step. I am grateful for the teacher to patiently explain in enough detail and share his knowledge with us. As a bonus, many rigging and animation concepts you learn in this course are general enough to be reused for other projects, like exporting to other game engines because different game engines often provide similar principles for playing animations. Although each game engine has specific technical constructions that need to be learned, I'm confident that the core principles that I learn from this course are quite general and will be broadly applicable. I suspect that the foundations of these animation techniques often last quite a bit longer than the specific UI-details of a particular version of a game engine. I'm already looking forward to more courses created by this teacher!
