We really did not learn how to build an engine. It was good as an informational clip which I could have googled for.

It’s a bit difficult to understand the narrator. The slides could also be a little bit more Visually appealing. It’s just text on a slide. Production value matters nowadays.

1. can't understand what he is saying. 2. does not go into detail or teach coding. 3. if you are going to teach someone something you always go into detail and specifics.

the sound is not of good quality as there is static and background noise.i do not need to see him click on his computer to switch to the slide show.though he does present clear and understandable information.

I was going to give this course and the instructor 2 stars after one thirds of the course thru because the topics of this course were not bad even though the instructor is terrible at delivering the contents. However, after fully finishing this course, I am giving this course and the instructor 0.5 stars just because I am not allowed to give him 0 stars. I am giving this course 0.5 stars for following reasons: 1. This whole course is actually on Apache Solr. Which I have assumed so before I started the course. However, the problem is that he barely teaches anything on Apache Solr. It seems like he is simply reading off "Beginner's guide on how to start Apach Solr". And, what offends me more is that this cousse is actually an introductory course to instructor's another course on Apache Solr. So, as a result, I had to spend 20 bucks to learn that the instructor has a course on Apache Solr. WTF!!! 2. The lecturer only slightly touches concepts, and does not go in to details on how to implement the any of the concepts. There is no hands-on coding involved in this course at all, and the instructor keeps saying: "Implementation of what I just explained to you is easy. And, you can learn more by reading the documentation" Another WFT!!! 3. It is very hard to understand the lecturer with his very strong accent. No offence to the lecturer, but he should add subtitle to every screencast, or at least, he should upload scripts of what he says in screencasts. Subtitles or scripts will help us understand his lecture a lot better. 4. Lecturer's lack of responsiveness. I have asked a question and even sent him a message weeks ago, but he has not replied to me. And, I see that there are some questions asked months ago, and they haven't answered yet... Compared to other instructors on Udemy who respond to my questions in next 24 hours, I am very disappointed with the instructor of this course. If you are looking for a list of topics that you need to touch base on regarding building a web search engine, this could be the one. However, you can see the table of contents without signing up for this course. Thus, why waste 20 bucks to discover that his screen casts are obsolete? It is better off to Google "Apache Solr Search Engine" That way, you can find more resources without wasting 20 bucks.

I appreciate the effort put in by the uploader but the course didn't help me "Build a Search engine" ; Instead I am being lectured on how to make a website which ranks higher in search results. The course is a general overview of the concepts behind a search engine and does not get into the technical aspect behind it. Content has been structured well but the actual content is below par. Being an Indian myself, I had some difficulties with the accent. Providing subtitles could improve the experience. To sum it up, I'll think ten times before buying a course on Udemy now.

The content of the course would better fit into a well-done powerpoint... short text with some additional explanation... but PLEASE... do your homework... do noise correction with all the background noise... do cut the beginning and final seconds of the tutorials... do not say hello again after 1:30 of time... And I do not want to see you typing... please be so kind to do any preparation in advance... there were some good hints in the material... but following the course was quite tough... at lease just following the text on the editor, it was easy to skip... TOO helicopter view... and not at all what was promised in the beginning... just a broad introduction, no workable details...

I am not sure what this class is good for. It is probably part of a series of courses, rather than a course on its own.

I only finished about 15% of the class and I no longer want to continue. When I sign up this class, I want to do something hands-on to actually BUILD a search engine. I think many others may think the same way, but after finishing 15%, all I learnt is some basic concepts and those concepts are so basic like this is my first time on the Internet. Also the lecturer is basically reading the slides or there is only a one-page slide with just a title on it.
