🎨 Art Therapy & Cognitive Behavioural Decline: A Protective Approach

Course Headline: Using Art Therapy to Target the Risk Factors for Cognitive Decline 🚀

Understanding Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD): SCD is more than just misplacing your keys or forgetting where you are. It's a subjective report of worsening memory, confusion, and trouble with everyday tasks like cooking or getting dressed. These experiences can be early signs of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, but they don't necessarily mean you have a diagnosis. It's a critical stage where intervention can make a significant difference. 🧠

Cognition Explained: At its core, cognition is the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses. It encompasses:

  • Learning: Absorbing new information and skills.
  • Remembering: Retrieving past experiences and facts.
  • Making Judgments: Evaluating situations to make informed decisions.

The Impact of SCD: As we age, the fear of losing cognitive abilities can be daunting. The frequent forgetfulness associated with SCD not only affects our daily routines but also impacts self-esteem and confidence. Objects that were once within reach may suddenly vanish, leaving us feeling disoriented and unsure. 😢

Art Therapy & Cognitive Behavioural Decline is designed for anyone concerned about their own or a loved one's memory loss. I got to know how to be resilient in challenging times since it's pretty hard to be resilient while being in grief and trauma.

Thank you for an interesting course. I very much appreciate the approach of the course author, which I see as an insight into his own journey and I appreciate the opportunity to be part of it. I found some of the exercises very inspiring. I certainly agree that a therapist or activation worker should first go through the exercises themselves, try them out and reflect on them before offering them to clients. Personally, I believe that lifeline exercise can be a beautiful exercise for a person who has not experienced major trauma. However, if they have experienced them, it is very emotional and therefore it should be well considered whether we can work well with the emotions released. Thank you again for an interesting course.
