What you will learn

A solid understanding of statistics and a good foundation of models, correlation and hypothesis testing.

Why take this course?

Statistics is all about processing data and extracting information. The information we seek is the parameters and distribution of the random variable that generated the data. Armed with this information we can answer questions about reality and optimize industrial processes. Statistics thus forms the backbone of science and business and this course is designed to help you understand the components of this fundamental subject and how they all fit together. Designed for Actuaries, but applicable for everyone. This course contains the new sections for the CS1 exam.

Sections:

  1. Exploratory Data Analysis

  2. General Probability Theory

  3. Random Variables

  4. Probability Distributions

  5. Generating Functions

  6. Joint Distributions (Covariance)

  7. Conditional Expectations

  8. Central Limit Theorem

  9. Sampling and Statistical Inference

  10. Point Estimation

  11. Confidence Intervals

  12. Hypothesis Testing

  13. Linear Regression and Correlation

  14. Analysis of Variance

  15. Bayesian Statistics and Credibility Theory

  16. Student Questions

  17. Introduction to R Programming

Great match for me. I have some background in stats and maths and needed to recap before diving into past papers.

MJ is great at explaining very complicated concepts in a way that is easy to understand and relatable! I've used this course as preparation for the CS1 exam - it's been very helpful.

MJ gives a very brief and easy to understand explanation. This is my second purchase and I like his course so much. I rate 4 stars because it’s better to have some attachment/doc to download but don’t have.

MJ uses clear examples to explain concepts, I do wish however that more challenging exam-like questions are added into the course

Helpful for students trying to grasp key concepts for the CS1 in a fun way. Good complement to the textbook and other materials from ActED , as it summarizes key point effectively. Insightful to also hear exam tips on certain topics, but would have loved to hear more of those opinions

There are a number of mistakes, imprecisions and inconsistencies that are making the course unreliable. For example, there are cases in which the instructor notices there was a mistake in his teaching but did not re-do the video (just corrected it later on). There is a case about skewness in which a question from a student made MJ realize he taught something wrong, and, unbelievably, the video was not re-done. I am continuing to see whether the quality improves.

Its a good match but not sufficient to meet the end goal of clearing exam, should be supplmented by another textbook.

Very informative course. I would suggest a few things: Saying "it's actually quite easy" can be very discouraging for students. Additionally, more examples to be worked out on your own / with video support would be helpful.

The course has been very informative so far,but the lecturer does not go into too much detail on some topics.
