Description

Learn how to carry out one of the most in-demand user experience techniques — the Usability Expert Review.

Knowing how to competently carry out an expert review is a skill that should be in every UX consultant's toolbox.

Expert reviews are a great way to identify "usability bloopers" with a product or web site. They are quick, cost-effective and provide an immediate sanity check for the design. Expert reviews are also an ideal way to ensure that a product or web site will meet usability standards.

But many people find it difficult to identify specific usability issues from generic usability heuristics. Beginners also find it hard to derive action-oriented recommendations that can be passed to the design team.

This seminar reveals the practitioner secrets behind expert reviews and will teach you how to think like a usability expert.

  • Appreciate the difference between a usability inspection and someone’s personal opinion.

I discovered David's course via research after reading the book 'Think Like a UX Researcher' book as David is the Author. The book was extremely helpful to my current position and I wanted more material from David if there was any. The course so far for me contains excellent explanations and examples of each testing approach and is really helping me to discover new ways of applying the techniques as a UX Designer/Researcher. It also serves as a great refresher for any UX Design team individual for picking up methods that may not already have been applied within the UX processes within their teams. Great Job David, loving the course so far.

Great course, very useful, I will apply this knowledge for sure! But you could improve transcription (subtitles), there are several errors.

For someone who already knows the basics there's not much new things to learn. Wish there was more about practical application of the methods in real projects. Also, I didn't see it anywhere before buying but the course seems to be old. The principles didn't change of course, but the presentations and examples are dated.

This is a course for UXers who want to get deeper knowledge in UX research. The lectures are full of knowledge and practical examples that are, even though a bit outdated, is still relevant for today. He went all out and gave examples he encountered on his everyday life. How often would you document what you see? That's some dedication out there. There are materials and resources that he actually uses for his clients. There's no room for doubt. Even though the platform is restricted, he makes sure to give you tasks and assignments that you can do to practice what you learn. His teaching style keeps you hooked and he adds humor here and there. I wish I could say better words but a sincere thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Mr. David Travis has to be hands down one of the best instructors on anything related to Usability and UX. Certainly the best on Udemy. His courses actually teach you about the concepts with clarity . He is one of the most punctual instructors and patient too as he will answer your queries within a day(usually within 12 hours). Don't be fooled by the course timings thinking oh this is just 5 hours to understand and actually complete all the practical task and applying the concepts it takes much more time and effort. I have completed the course and will be posting about the application of Heuristic Evaluation and Cognitive walkthrough on a product in coming weeks on LinkedIn. Absolutely value for money. Thank you Mr. David for posting this course.

So far I think this is really great information! It might be more engaging to see David speaking on occasion rather than just looking at slides which is really why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. Also, I might remove references to Flash plugins as those are basically a thing of the past now. One thought that might be nice when completing the heuristic questionnaires and reviewing others responses. I kind of "forgot" my answers! I would've liked to have see a recap of my answers and then maybe the percentage of people that answered the same way next to each of the answers. The pie charts were a bit overwhelming.
