Description

Do you want to better understand employees that have ADHD, autism, and other conditions? Do you want to make sure your HR department isn’t discriminating against neurodivergent candidates? Do you want to make sure that everyone you work with is given the opportunity to perform at their best? This course will help you gain a deeper insight into what it’s like to live with these conditions and how you can support those affected.

15-20% of the population is estimated to be neurodiverse. Large organisations are finally starting to take this statistic seriously by implementing neurodiversity training programmes and other interventions to raise awareness and provide support. No matter how large or small your company is, your workforce can benefit greatly from understanding and supporting neurodiversity.

The essence of neurodiversity awareness is understanding that just because not everybody’s brain functions in the same way, that does not mean that anyone who is different to what society deems normal is less competent. In fact, some of the greatest minds humanity has seen have been neurodivergent. Albert Einstein is just one example of a great scientist who is believed to have been autistic. Many individuals with autism or ADHD have accomplished great things and are highly skilled in certain areas.

The course begins by listing a range of neurodiverse conditions, before focusing on ADHD and autism and how these symptoms affect people on a daily basis, in the workplace. We then explore the types of support you can offer employees with ADHD and autism. We look at how the strengths of these conditions can be a great benefit in many fields of work despite individuals often struggling to find employment. One reason for this is that they may not conform to social norms in terms of communication. We will take a closer look at how discrimination may be occurring in the hiring process – intentionally or unintentionally. The course concludes by reviewing some additional support options including government funding and neurodiversity training.

If you’re ready to make sure that your neurodivergent employees are able to reach their full potential, enrol now.

I thought the training was great, and insightful. However, I am struggling with how to support the neurodiverse employee in an an environment that is also equitable for existing employees who might prefer some of the accommodations offered to this group. It is a difficult balance when considering engagement and job satisfaction for all employees.

Really helpful to parse out information regarding this important topic. Training is needed in HR and a general sensitivity by all will go a long way in inclusive workplaces to create change.

There is not enough information about social struggles that neurodivergent individuals face in the workplace. I've been written up for unintentionally offending somebody in HR when I made an analogy comparing HR to Politicians.

I'm not so happy about the fact, that Aspergers is still used. It is not used as a term neither in the DSM-5 nor the ICD-11. Furthermore, I'm furious a quote from Hans Asperger was used. The information otherwise sounded reasonable. While in the instruction other neurodivergencies like OCD, tourette, dyslexia and so on where described and mentioned, they are not looked at in detail. I would have loved to get further and detailed information about other neurodivergencies than autism and ADHD.

This course is informative, in general. However, did not help in understanding the behavior of one of my reports. He talks -ve about everything - the company, policies and process and I am trying to understand how to behave to make him feel good, taken care and productive.

Yes it clarified my understanding and where I had misunderstood diagnoses. It aided my future behaviour with colleagues who are not neurotypical and gave some good tips on how we might accomodate ADHD and Autism in the workplace

The style of delivery lacked variety - face-on lecture, some written bullet points - made it quite challenging if this is not your learning style.

I really liked the course! I really hope that every manager and HR can commit to inclusion with action and awareness!

I enjoyed this course and found it clear, informative and well-paced, although I thought that more could have been done to make the visual content engaging and memorable, rather than the 'talking head' style, which was the majority. My main feedback would be that most of the support schemes mentioned in Lecture 7 appear to be run by the Irish government, and not available in the UK.

There was a lot of information downloaded in a short space of time. Some bullet points in notes would be helpful on each lecture.

I must say being a professional that is a neurodivergent who is formally diagnosed with Level 1 Autistism along with severe ADHD and dyslexia. This course was quite delightful. Your course spoke in a manner that was not only engaging but where the tone was empathetic and welcoming. Thanks for the great course. I look forward to sharing this course as a resource for our organization. Cheers

Great course, unable to find the worksheets mentioned during some of the training sessions which might have been a useful takeaway.
