Compilation Videos

The newest addition to our joke-writing guide! These bonus videos have been wildly popular in the past, but this is the first time I’m releasing them on Udemy. Why are the compilation videos so effective in teaching comedy?… because mastery is all about repetition! The more you can practice a single skill, the better you’ll get at it.

And the best way to get that repetition is to watch amazing comedians who have already learned the lessons you’re trying to learn. That means watching great comedians do what they do best.

This is where our compilation videos come in. They take long comedy performances and “reorganize” them so that all the same types of jokes are done back-to-back.

Simply put, we show you great comedians using each skill over and over and over again. As you go through the video you’ll see great comedians using the same skills you'll learn in the course! This adds a whole new level to your understanding of how to write great jokes.

*****TESTIMONIALS*****

"Best. Course. Ever. Jared has done his homework. And he’s as sharp as a piece of broken porcelain. For the beginning comic, just his fundamental advice about memorizing material at the expense of persona is invaluable, but that’s just a start. As a published author with a journalism degree, I can tell you his writing advice is spot on. But every single presentation and there are close to a 100 with variable lengths, has clear and concise information that will help the pro almost as much as it helps the novice. For novices, this course is indispensable. For pros, I guarantee Jared’s informative videos are still well worth your time".

Author of Confessions of a Bronx Bookie

*****

“This program gives you the tools you need to not only become a good comic. It helps you break down the walls we don’t realize we put up for ourselves and harness your craft to become a great comic. If your are serious about becoming a professional comedian then this is a must have."

– Trevor Gertonson
Stand-Up Comedian, Writer, Actor and creator of Laugh You Bastards.

*****

"This program is spot on. I just applied the storytelling techniques and it was soooo much easier to write material. Not only did it help me focus more on how I naturally talk and have conversations, it helped me weave multiple jokes I made for a premise into a more natural cohesive bit. I can’t wait to test this new stuff out next time I get onstage."

“This is one of those courses that
covers the basics and goes beyond. It gives you the box and then tells you what is outside of it. I am not sure if it is ahead of its time, but it is DEFINITELY TIME FOR IT!"

~Dave Johnson- Award-winning Comedy/Magician, clients include various conventions and Fortune 500 companies.

“You're my new hero. This course is a much-needed resource for the thousands of comedians (including me!) who need no-nonsense, practical advice for generating ideas, fine-tuning material, overcoming challenges, developing an original style, and mapping out a career."
~Paula Johnson- Co-Producer, The Joke Gym, Los Angeles

*****

"Jared breaks down what the pros are doing and how you can achieve amazing results on stage. I've read many stand-up comedy books. This is the only book that has given me a deeper understanding of why comedy works and how to use that knowledge to further my career."
~Comedian Ellery Allexis- Actor, Comedian, Producer, and Host

The instructor is quite knowledgeable about his subject. The course seems complete without falling into redundancy. On the downside, there is no opportunity to validate our knowledge. Notably, it would have been nice to have an application exercise of the 6 steps in the form of an open question where the students try to write a joke. Then, fellow students taking the course after that can leave a comment (constructive criticism or encouragement) to those students who chose to make their joke homework public.

After this course I feel my review should at least be in the form of a joke! You know, just like the programming courses have reviews in binary, and the gender studies courses have reviews in non-binary. I got a lot out of joke structure and hope to put it to good use in my goal to be Myspace-famous.

Very basic but good information. Some stuff I already knew on an intuitive level but I was very helpful to have things explained in a technical sense.

This was one of the only udemy courses I completed through and through. I would also like to learn about writing comedy for a stand-up show or in general.

I wasn't looking for anything in particular. But he is answering the right questions so far. Happy to be here.

I am struggling to stay awake! It is soooo boring. . . . the delivery, the bad audio, the non-stop talking

I wish the jokes that were used as examples were actually funny! Other than that, the course is useful in theory!

This course was short, sweet, and well presented indeed! The downloadable handouts that the instructor has provided are also quite handy resources to have as I practiced writing my jokes. Would recommend it to my peers as a solid starting point for learning how to speak and write comedically.

I went from having a page or so of unsorted jokes to several pages for three different themed acts that I can perform. The breakdown of the different types of jokes is excellent, and I was able to apply them all to create lots of new jokes and improve old ones.

1. Identification of the underlying variety of types that are encapsulated by one word --'Joke' 2. Interesting examples to explain the ideas. 3. How a novice can make a start by putting some sort of mechanical steps for different varieties of the concepts. 4. Very Focused and not trying to sell something else, than what was promised.

I like the course so far, although the example jokes aren't funny at all so I hope I can eventually do better than that using the same method. The course itself is great.

It's a great course for starters as it helps to differentiate and identify between fundamentals of humour.

Amazing course! I'm from Chile. I had tons of jokes ideas but they laked structure. With this course I wrote these jokes ideas properly and I started my comedy journey a few weeks ago. I'm doing very well, people laugh at my jokes. I encourage you to take this!

Good extensive material. I would love to see more dynamics, personal examples and assignments for students, as well as some quizzes.
