Why take this course?

The TOTAL Seminars Team brings you one of our most popular Instructors, Tom Carpenter is the Chief Technical Officer at CWNP (Certified Wireless Network Professionals). He's been in the IT industry for 25+ years, written over 20 books on IT subjects, and is also heavily involved in objectives development and exam creation in the certification industry.

Tom walks you through how Database Administrators (DBAs) move their databases to the cloud using AWS. It is helpful for anyone who deals with any aspect of databases in AWS.

AWS has come out with a BRAND NEW certification exam called the AWS Certified Database - Specialty (DBS-C01). The exam was created specifically for those who are interested in the database aspects of AWS.

Do you know how data has radically changed the landscape of everything in the cloud, the Internet, and your lives? If you've ever seen the "Customers also bought" tag on Amazon (that lead you to buy that super cool Bluetooth-enabled R2-D2), or used the databases in your company to better understand where the best places are to invest your profits, or simply used the contacts function of your phone to store all the important information about the people in your lives, you know how crucial data is. All these keep information in databases and most databases are housed in the AWS Cloud.

Although this course is designed with Database Administrators (DBAs) in mind, it is helpful for anyone who deals with any aspect of databases in AWS. This exam covers everything from the AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) to NoSQL databases (DynamoDB) to the AWS Database Migration Tool. It focuses on various aspects, such as design, migration, deployment, maintenance, security, monitoring, and disaster recovery.

I would consider this a basic overview of fundamental information. It's a good start. I wouldn't call it's AWS Test Prep material. I'd call it, Getting Started. It's not bad, it's just not comprehensive.

Took DBS-C01 prior to taking this course. Course lacks: Cloudwatch vs cloudtrail details Definitions of CloudHSM, SageMaker, and Glue Route 53 use cases Common VPC errors and how to resolve Definitions, strengths and weaknesses of each AWS database option (Neptune, TimeStream, QLDB, Kinesis, DocumentDB, Elasticache differences between Redis and Memcached. Very basic course- will not pass exam with this course alone.

The instructor was engaging and interesting. Unfortunately the course material is very entry level information and no where near in depth enough to pass the AWS certification test. This is a great into to AWS Database services but nothing else.

So far it seems pretty basic. That could either mean I am ready for the exam or the course isn't deep enough and I am going to fail miserably.

Contents are very basis like 101 course, does not offer deep knowledge that is need to pass this exam Course does not offer much for anybody with some experience with AWS RDS

Based on my experience with AWS Specialty exams, the questions are scenario-based and go into detail. And, this course is barely scratching the surface of the knowledge you need to pass the exam. Just have a look at https://d1.awsstatic.com/training-and-certification/docs-database-specialty/AWS-Certified-Database-Specialty_Sample-Questions.pdf . These are the type of questions you can expect in the exam. With this course only, you would not even be able to answer the first question. I highly recommend that you take this course as a starting point on your learning journey to the AWS Database Specialty certification and use other sources like (free) AWS training courses, whitepapers, documentation, (AWS) YouTube videos, etc. This is a great guide with additional resources: https://d1.awsstatic.com/training-and-certification/ramp-up_guides/Ramp-Up_Guide_Databases.pdf

This is a good overview of working with databases in general and an introduction to AWS database services. Currently, this course does not go into enough depth to pass the exam. I hope more detailed lectures will be added over time. Still at the price of 2 pizzas it's good value for money, as are many Udemy courses.

There is very little material in this course and it is definitely not sufficient to pass the database speciality exam. At least have the course is beginner level and not pitched appropriately. I did pass the exam but only because i'd done the SA exams (associate and pro) and the Data Analytics exams. There is no mention of key services like Lambda, Secrets Manager or the Neptune loader. There is insufficient coverage of security topics (e.g. NACLs versus Security groups). Note I didn't read the suggested AWS whitepapers so perhaps there is material there that would have given the required level of coverage (but you don't really need this course for access to the AWS recommended materials) In the interests of balance, the scant content is delivered very well and you can scrape through with this course if you have already done more advanced AWS certifications.

For the most parts, it was ok. I have no idea if i am ready for the exam after this. It seems like this describes the top of the iceberg. Spelling errors in questions. Lvl should be beginner. Alot of topics covers external web services and configs. Too many basic concepts explained.

Probably reduce on intro to relational, and can increase real world aws case troubeshooting would be good. Overall, satisfied

Production quality is good, but there are mistakes sprinkled in to the content and quizzes that may leave new learners with bad understandings of concepts, features, and capabilities of AWS Services, and leave more experienced students questioning what they hear. Also, I struggle to see this as a certification preparation resource, as much of the required depth is missing. I would look at it more as a good introduction to databases on AWS than something to prepare someone to sit the exam.

There are enough mistakes that I have noticed, it makes me worry about the content I don't know so well. Also, It does not seem detailed enough to pass a specialty certification. It probably does serve as a reminder of the kind of things you need to know to pass the exam.
