Why take this course?

In this course, we cover the roots of religious beliefs all around the world, Shamanism. We cover various religious methods from many different backgrounds and as a student, by the end of this course, you will have a firm grasp on how religious ideas emerged, where they came from, but most importantly you will have a firm concept of how you can experience shamanic states for yourself. This course is designed to teach students how to have their OWN religious experience. Specifically, we talk about sensory deprivation, meditation, psychedelics, and psychotropics, as well as a variety of other religious methods designed to help a shaman or initiate enter the spirit world. Our primary resource, or textbook if you will, is Michael Harner's The Way of the Shaman.

This classic on shamanism pioneered the modern shamanic renaissance. It is the foremost resource and reference on shamanism. Now, with a new introduction and a guide to current resources, anthropologist Michael Harner provides the definitive handbook on practical shamanism – what it is, where it came from, how you can participate.

"Wonderful, fascinating… Harner really knows what he's talking about."
CARLOS CASTANEDA

"An intimate and practical guide to the art of shamanic healing and the technology of the sacred. Michael Harner is not just an anthropologist who has studied shamanism; he is an authentic white shaman."
STANILAV GROF, author of 'The Adventure Of Self Discovery'

"Harner has impeccable credentials, both as an academic and as a practising shaman. Without doubt (since the recent death of Mircea Eliade) the world's leading authority on shamanism."
NEVILL DRURY, author of 'The Elements of Shamanism'

Michael Harner, Ph.D., has practised shamanism and shamanic healing for more than a quarter of a century. He is the founder and director of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies in Norwalk, Connecticut

I gave this class a 5-Star rating... but I had some issues with this class. -It is possible that it may be considered a “Cash Grab”, a promotion for a paid YouTube subscription. -I feel that there are amateur attempts of inserting hypnotic or subliminal suggestions into the videos. Imagine going to a used car salesman. -Some of the materials might be considered plagiarism, one was even blocked by the original author. -The class is a year old and dead, very few students, no announcements, no responses to the Q&A section. I had difficulties trying to finish this course, the wind was blown out of my sails, so to speak, especially after giving the first two courses, considered prerequisites, such a high rating and recommendation. I've subscribed to his YouTube channel, it will cost $15/month, the same course is located there, plus many others for subscribers, so these are basically just a branding promotion for additional income on his channel, which seems to have died also, not too much activity there either. You can't blame a young man trying to make a living and supporting his family. It is edited poorly, the instructor hasn't maintained the higher professional quality of the first two classes, seems to be intoxicated. He is obviously a well-read gentleman, has a decent vocabulary, and commanding use of the English language. It seems that he takes courses himself, then shares them as sort of a tutor, goes on some field research with funds that he raises, and returns to share his knowledge with people who have the same interests. So.. if you are OK with all this, by all means buy the course.

He has a keen point of view on shamanism and he made a decent summary I would definitely recommend. BUT: 1- lesson numbering is absurd and frequently referred to something not present here!!! 2- he seems to be slightly biased towards christian church 3- same thing for drugs. Decent description but a bit dangerous to face, IMHO. 4- he is bursting into almost maniacal laughter for no reason and this is utterly annoying 5- it seems a bit superficial in some aspects 6- It affirms (if not almost plagiarizing) to follow Harner's work but he is frequently off couse. It is good to understand what shamanism truly is and its deep root. It is not a guide even because it doesn't explain in details how to set up a shamanic journey safely. Three stars but I could recommend it once you are aware of what you buy.
