Content and Overview

I designed this program to help you begin your musical journey on the tenor saxophone in the most efficient and fun way. This program is suitable for anyone who has a desire to play and has a working tenor saxophone. There are over 2.5 hours of video lessons and practice videos.

The layout of the course uses a simple format:

-1 lesson video that explains a new concept/technique,

-1 practice video that has voice overs and graphics to help you play along with the teacher on the screen in "real time".

There are twelve sets of lessons and practice videos that help you learn melody, rhythm, harmony, and improvising. This program also contains a "Jam Room" with a virtual band that you can play along with at different speeds. As an added bonus there are also five music theory made easy animated videos that explain the basic building blocks of music.

At the end of this course you will have the confidence to play the tenor saxophone both on your own and with others in different musical situations.

I really like the clear explanation, as I never played sax before! Also, short videos are very good idea as, for beginners long videos can be a challenge.

yes, I've been playing guitar for years but the saxophone is a new instrument for me so starting with the basics is good

Sessions do not flow well. No fingering charts at the beginning. Music is read left to right. Todd has upcoming notes on the left on his exercises.

For a context, I am 24 years old now. I had learned piano for 1 year when I was 7 y.o. , and had learned viola for 2 years when I was 18. So I know a thing or two about the basics that are used as the beginning of this course, which was actually good for me as a mind refresher after a long time I haven't visited music theory. So it was a decent start for the theory especially for people who never learnt music theory before. So here is where my disappointment started and I hope future students read this, and Mr. Todd would likely improve. I have never touched a saxophone before, let alone play it. But before I purchased this course, I had already spent 1 month watching lots of youtube free tutorials that are apparently much much more useful than this paid course, which is why I'm totally disappointed. I'm sure Mr. Todd is a good teacher, and I know he has good intentions in creating this course, but objectively reviewing the course, this is not at all close to sufficient for beginner level knowledge, and here's why: First, you did not teach AT ALL regarding EMBOUCHURE TECHNIQUE which is literally the one most important thing in playing any kind of wind instrument, You did not provide that knowledge at all for us. Instead you focused on melodies and everything which should come second after your students have decent embouchure technique. This is my first and biggest disappointment. Second thing, the discrepancies between you teaching us the basic melodies, chords, and pattern, and then suddenly you expect us to jump to improvisation WITHOUT EVEN giving us the knowledge or at least the basics in improvising. You just said "improvise" and giving us backing melodies then how on earth would you expect us to suddenly jump into improvisation without at least enough basics? And the third, you might realize your content is not sufficient, so you somehow managed to throw everything that are unnecessary inside the course so as if your course are worth more than what it was, while in fact almost half of them are pointless for beginners. I'm talking about section 13, 14, and 15. Those are the most pointless part of this course because once again, it added little to no value for your students. I hope in the next courses you are able to bring more to the plate and not just this random pointless sections, and focus more on what matters like basic embouchure technique as the base for all wind instruments, and more pattern exercises (which you have provided here but not enough) and more scales. I hope this critics does not let you down, and instead for a better improvement in your future courses, Mr. Todd, I believe you are a good person who sincerely wants to better your students, but this course just didn't do that.

Thank you Todd, I have learned so much. Every part of the course has been enjoyable for me. I am looking forward to moving on to the next course for tenor sax. Todd you have a very good screen presence and a gentle but encouraging voice and mannerisms. Good fortune to yourself and I look forward to progressing. Ed Skipper France.

As a beginner, the first part of the course was excellent, but progress became more difficult toward the end of the course. Overall - very good

I have no musical experience/background and need detailed basic instruction. The videos accomplished this, and did well in anticipating a beginners questions.

This course is very hard to follow. I was initially excited to take this course, but after awhile, it was just boring and I cannot bring myself to finish the course. I am very disappointed.

I am going to be playing in a Jazz Band after the summer ends and I am learning a new instrument and can't afford personal lessons.

Improvising is clearly the hardest part of playing an instrument; I was under the impression that he would be more explanatory with improvising as was advertised. Glad that this course was only $10.
