Description

The renowned scholar, Anglican bishop, and bestselling author widely considered to be the heir to C. S. Lewis contemplates the central event at the heart of the Christian faith—Jesus’ crucifixion—arguing that the Protestant Reformation did not go far enough in transforming our understanding of its meaning.

In The Day the Revolution Began, N. T. Wright once again challenges commonly held Christian beliefs as he did in his acclaimed Surprised by Hope. Demonstrating the rigorous intellect and breathtaking knowledge that have long defined his work, Wright argues that Jesus’ death on the cross was not only to absolve us of our sins; it was actually the beginning of a revolution commissioning the Christian faithful to a new vocation—a royal priesthood responsible for restoring and reconciling all of God’s creation.

Wright argues that Jesus’ crucifixion must be understood within the much larger story of God’s purposes to bring heaven and earth together. The Day the Revolution Began offers a grand picture of Jesus’ sacrifice and its full significance for the Christian faith, inspiring believers with a renewed sense of mission, purpose, and hope, and reminding them of the crucial role the Christian faith must play in protecting and shaping the future of the world.

I liked being able to follow on after reading chapters to then watch the lecture. Helpful in summarising the key points. Found some questions in the quizzes a little tricky but overall the course was good. Would I do another ? Not so sure. I think I would rather do one through a bible college as one that has dome more interaction to help cement knowledge and to debate. But good all the same.

I just love how Prof Wright is able to connect the relevant parts of scripture to bring us closer to an understanding of probably one of the most perplexing cries: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me!”

I'm taking this course during Holy Week, and it makes the season so much more meaningful and profound. Many of the concepts introduced are not something I had given thought to before.

This material presented by Professor Wright, is paradigm shifting and undermining in a good way, in a way that is more faithful to the Scriptures than is commonly presented or taught. And I am very thankful to have gone through this course on the day the revolution began, Good Friday, and I want to continue to chew on these things as well as take more courses by NT Wright.

Professor Wright brings his passion for scripture along with his knowledge in this course! His eye-opening and refreshing perspectives open the door to understanding and answering long-held questions. I highly recommend any of Professor Wright's courses for those wanting to develop a more profound and intimate knowledge of the scriptures!

This is wonderful and opens my mind and heart more fully to what Jesus accomplished at Calvary. I think the thing I appreciate most is that it helps in a grand way to consider that the Gospel is more than about simply getting me, or any other individual right with God, but really does tell the story of the Lord's people through all the ages and while it does deal with me as an individual, almost more importantly it shows my place in the Community of the King. Again, this is a wonderful study and I am most grateful for it!

I have been reading the book for a while now. I am confident that the materials NTW will touch on will help me to grasp deeper the meaning of the cross and the resurrection. I look forward to be able to marinate what the Bible says about this revolution that began long time ago and be able to tell others and even preach it from the platform.

This course is a "mid-course" correction that the entire Church needs to hear in order to reclaim the DNA of what is "good" about the Good News.

Yes, it is. I have already read the book The Day The Revolution Began, but I think the online course will help me have a better grasp and mastery of its content.

This is my second course that I have taken with Prof. N.T. Wright. I love that the lectures are approximately 15 min, and filled with a great deal of knowledge. I listen to each lecture at least 3 times and each time, I gain new insight. I purchased and read the book prior to taking the course and N.T. Wright's lectures and the quizzes helps me further my study. I look forward to enjoying the courses even after completing them.

I read Prof. Wright’s book when it was first published and was enthralled by its powerful account of the significance of the Crucifixion. Now to hear his account enlarged and detailed by Prof. Wright himself has enhanced and developed my understanding.

The cross, the resurrection, the living out of the beatitudes in the way that Jesus did. So much former thinking being challenged, undone and replaced with the spanning themes of the bible. Great stuff.
