Relax During a Busy Day with Meditation and Mindfulness

Description

Welcome to The Calm Café! Your Place to Relax and Refresh Every Day!

How to relax and refresh yourself in a busy world, full of overwhelm?

This is a space to take good care of yourself and refresh your energy.

Too often, we take a break and continue depleting our energy, hooked in an endless scrolling online or caught up in our future To Do list.

It doesn't have to be this way. Even a small break can be a haven of deep ease: nourishing, restful, supportive.

Relaxation and refreshing yourself is the key.

The Calm Café supports you in making the most of your short breaks, so that you can leave feeling more nourished, at ease and refreshed. You'll find a selection of ten practices to help you to

  • re-set your mood

  • nourish a sense of deep ease

  • let go of a difficult conversation

  • nourish a sense of joy

  • take care of anxiety or anger

  • take great care of your precious self

If you've got ten minutes, you have time for this.

So get yourself a cuppa, pull up a chair and create a space of deep ease for yourself.

How this works:

(1) In The Calm Café, we do our best to be truly here, honest, patient and super-kind with ourselves.

(2) All you need to do is show up. That is perfection in itself.

(3) And that's it!

The mind is like an untrained puppy, needing lots of guidance and encouragement.

How we refocus back is key: if we give ourselves a hard time then we'll zap our willpower; we need to bring ourselves back with genuine kindness.

The second you notice that you're distracted, mindfulness has already kicked back in.

Nice job!! Now all you need to do is lead yourself back and settle back into your practice again.

This course will be a vital resource on how to relax in your 'Every Day'.

This was a course I wanted to linger with, and not rush through. I looked forward to the sound of the coffee shop bell at the beginning of each session, knowing there would be feeling of acceptance and caring as soon as I entered this virtual meditative café. I experienced a sense of calm with each session. I also learned new ways of reminding myself to live in gratitude. This course has been grounding and helpful to me. I would highly recommend it to others.

Yes. I love the course. It is very easy to dip in and dip out. There is a lot of material in each segment and deserves to be revisited more than once

It has been delightful to see, hear and practice with Orla. Timely too, as we are in the midst of the lockdown. Am highly appreciative of the opportunity and the resources that have been made available. Thank you!

This was a very good course for me. It deepens my understanding of mindfulness and presence. It makes me more appreciative of life as a wonderful gift. It enables me to enjoy life more by seeing that painful memories (the past) and projections (the future) are both illusions. Taking this course reminded me that In these turbulent times, this work, which is 'inner work', is needed more than ever. Actually, mindfulness and presence are at the interface between inner and 'outer' work—that is, work we do in the world. Our actions, thoughts and feelings are all intimately related, interdependent and ever-changing. It's never one or the other; it's always both. Some gems that inspired me: — self care is not selfishness — only by taking care of me can I care for others — monotasking is much better than multitasking — all thoughts and all actions have consequences — letting go of painful past memories enables me to enjoy each moment — likewise, letting go of frightening future projections That some people in atrocious circumstances are happy, while other people in horrible circumstances are miserable, has always raised interesting questions for me. This course both helps me to be happier irrespective of circumstances, and to be more effective in improving circumstances. I thought I was pretty good at monotasking, but I learned I have a long way to go. I'm already tasting and savouring the benefits. The course is structured so that one can take little bits at a time. The principles are explained with personal examples and stories. There are exercises so that one can practice to change habits that don't serve us well. I found Orlaith to be a gentle and engaging teacher. She embodies what she teaches with her own care, cheer, poise and gratitude. I will close this endorsement with lines from a poem by Howard Thurman, recited mindfully by Orlaith: I abandon all that I think I am All that I hope to be All that I believe I possess I let go of the past I withdraw my grasping hand from the future And in the great silence of this moment I alertly rest my soul

Beautiful! This is an easy course to follow and learn as you go. It’s very simple and clear. Your accent is lovely too, very soothing. You have a calm demeanour with a gentle presence of authority making it easy to let go and allow you to guide us into letting go.

This course is helping me keep out the distractions of everyday life that are constantly causing me to be on edge. The instructor knows what she is talking about and lives what she is teaching. For me it is time well-spent because these proven techniques are working for me. Looking ahead, this course is one that I will repeat periodically when life gets the better of me.

I am so happy I found this course. It's just what I need at the moment, during these turbulent times with Covid-19 at large, isolated at home from the rest of my family. I'd been looking for some guided meditations and was impressed to see Orla's extensive training with Thich Nhat Hahn. Her voice is very calming, and I loved her reflection that "the body doesn't time travel" - so of course coming back to our bodily sensations is the best way to be present and rest... the sanctuary that is always here for us, as long as we are alive. Looking forward to continuing the course – I suspect it is one I will return to again and again.
