What you will learn

You will grow a new wrinkle in your melon! Seriously, you will not only be able to turn in or submit your philosophy statement, but you will also sound remarkably brilliant when you interview. You will be able to speak intelligently about (and write about) the different paradigms, theories, and branches of philosophy. AND you will easily connect these ideas to real teaching practice.

Why take this course?

We will work through philosophy with an eye on writing our teaching philosophy statements. You will view the history of philosophical thought pertaining to education, from perennialism through connectivism. By the time we finish, you will be ready to write a comprehensive teaching philosophy, and you will be able to support your ideas with evidence from the past as well as specific examples of what your teaching philosophy looks like when it is operationalized in a real classroom. At the end of the course, you will be able to get video feedback from me, if you choose to do so!

The course is conducted bare as a school program. On the other side, course is appropriate for those eager to finish same, almost as if they come to the level of expert who is prepared for obligations, as well as for those willing to participate, better said, have interest with it.

I found the title a bit cryptic, where the content seems to be mainly about different notions of philosophy and about processes and psychology of teaching. I found much of the background lectures difficult to hear on max volume (although somewhat better when played on max through earphones on my mobile). It was considerably easier to listen to the media clips (an entertaining educative addition). The course offers a lot of good linking and associations. I rather like the use of mnemonics and the various other approaches to remembering things, a fine teaching model incorporating some philosophical and psychological concepts. Better sound quality would improve my rating (Note, this is not a critique of accent, tone or vocal clarity). New comment (5 Aug 2018): The latest lecture added (Cognitivism) is much easier to hear, ie. louder, the others, including Behaviorism, are still distinctly soft on max volume, especially without earphones.
