What you will learn

How teaching adults is NOT the same as teaching children

How to engage your students and why this is so important

How to involve the whole class

What to do is some students dominate

How to deal with tension in the class

How to have a lesson even though you've done NO preparation!

Why take this course?

This is a course created by an Instructor with a wealth of experience in Adult Education as an Instructor/Lecturer but also as a mature student. Recognising that situations and subjects and teaching/working environment will differ from country to country, educational institution to educational institution, this course is a collection of strategies/tips and overall advice.

But the course does not end there.

Owing to the differences, students are encouraged to post in the Q/A with their specific questions. Post to comment - and/or post for advice.

Topics covered include:

1. Quick tips and when to use them

2. Case Studies

3. Snowballing

4. Key elements of teaching adults

5. Distribution

6. Correcting and corrections

7. Tension

8. How to teach adults

9. Passion

10. Engagement

...and many other topics.

Throughout the lectures real-life examples are given.

How long will this course take to complete?

You could watch the course in a couple of hours - but that's not really the point. The whole idea is for you to watch and then apply the various strategies and THEN report back via the Q/A. Maybe you will have questions, asking how 'lecture 6' can be applied to your class of 50 year-olds etc etc.

See this course as a useful extra to any training you are undergoing as you prepare to teach adults. As you have lifetime access you can therefore ask questions for ever!

In the past i have done a few Udemy courses and they were honestly a bit boring, so i was not expecting a lot from this course. First of all, i really like the teacher. He is funny, spontaneous, creative and obviously has a lot of experience in teaching. Despite of this being a short course, there is a good amount of material here to work with. I'm already making a mind map of what kind of course i could teach to adults. In the future i will be looking for more courses from Chris. Actually i already have another one waiting and now i have high expectations for it. One question: what is the book club and where to find it? Was it removed from the material?

Overall I enjoyed listening to the tips provided throughout the videos and there were some good take-a-ways. I would have also like some visuals to reinforce the key points.

The first part of the course is very useful, excellent, to the lecture no. 23. Presentation. But about the books reading those books requires a lot of time and find those books which I think is not a part of the course "Teaching in Adult Educators".

At first, I was unsure of the instructor’s delivery (i.e., the walk-and-talk approach) but I grew to like it as I went on. I finished this course pretty fast mostly using it as a `podcast` while walking to work and back home. I occasionally returned to watch the acting bits and go over the portions I had missed. Will do the course again in a more suitable environment at a later date. And I’ve finally got the first book in the book club section. The pros: 1. Information is delivered in concise, easy-to-digest portions. 2. The instructor stays relevant to the topic. (Encouragements to do your research are there as well.) 3. It is evident that the instructor is enthusiastic about the topic of the course. (This helped me to stay motivated throughout) 4. The course was a great jumpstart for me as a new guy on the faculty. (Quick tips section especially) 5. The acting bits were a surprising but very welcome aid. Not exactly the cons, but: 1. Might be a little bit difficult to get engaged from the get-go if you are used to more `conventional` lessons with a whiteboard and whatnot. 2. Some supplementary downloadable and/or practice materials would have been appreciated. P.S. Would love to see an advanced version of this course in the future. Overall, I do think that this course has been a valuable experience for me. Would recommend. (And I got it at a discount, so consider me lucky.)

I enjoyed it very much. I realy liked the outdoor speaking and the whole spirit of the lectures. Actually i was not prepared for the final outcome but it was very close to my point of view. I am involved in the adult training in various levels of training and educational institutes and companies for more than thirty years and i would like to further contact you and exchange ideas. Thank you!

The course is straightforward and to the point. The last part regarding the book club was a bit redundant and maybe it was more useful to learn about how to lead a book club than to go over the books.
