Why take this course?

November, 2019.

This course takes the viewer through the key steps of entering and processing questionnaire/survey data and Likert scales in SPSS, including creating variables in SPSS, entering value labels, using statistical analyses to identify data entry errors, recoding Likert items, computing total (composite) scores, conducting reliability analyses of Likert scales, and computing other statistics, including frequencies, descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), and correlations. In addition to this, a number of additional database management skills in SPSS are also covered. Created by an award-winning university instructor with a focus on simple and accurate (step by step) explanations of the material.

Specifically, in this course you will learn the following:

  • How to enter questionnaire data for qualitative and quantitative variables in SPSS

  • How to reverse code negatively-worded Likert scale items

  • How to create composite (total) scores in SPSS

  • How to conduct reliability analyses (coefficient alpha) in SPSS

  • How to use statistical analysis to detect data entry errors

  • How to use SPSS syntax to quickly and efficiently analyze data

  • How to score/recode true/false (dichotomous) data in SPSS

  • How to create professional looking Likert scales in Microsoft Word

  • Learn SPSS database management skills, including inserting variables and cases, recoding variables, applying value labels to several variables at once, handling missing values in SPSS, and more

  • Learn how to conduct statistical analyses in SPSS, including frequencies, descriptives, correlation, and more. (The primary focus of this course is on questionnaire/survey data and Likert scales; for a more detailed look at data analysis in SPSS, our courses descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS courses are recommended)

This course is perfect for professionals looking to increase the data processing skills in SPSS, for those working on survey research, and for students working on theses or dissertations (or other research projects).

Good and easy to follow. Reinforcing some things I already know and adding some other things to my toolbox.

This course was pretty slow, definitely geared more towards people new to likert scales and SPSS. But even so, it was very repetitive, going over how to do something two or three times. A lot of time was spent on going over pretty trivial information, like what the different scales and datasets were, even though most people won't be using those exact scales and datasets so wouldn't need that much detail on it. In the end it only really covered how to do 2 or 3 analyses in SPSS.

Course was a great match. Clearly articulated, moderately paced, explicit explanations. Appreciated.

Video-wise, very easy to watch & follow. There is some occasional zoom-in on the videos, which was appropriately done & helps me to focus & learn things better. I hope this cover all aspects of survey though. Rather than a "survey". This focuses more on analyzing a "scale" which usually consist of only likert scale. for example, survey have checkboxes type of question. That isnt covered here (ended up having to learn about that elsewhere). But overall I really like the instructor. He was easy to understand & provides helpful tips.

good for the basics. However I could not download the resources that were attached. I would like the presenter to discuss that and also tell us how to download those resources as I have missed out on that and it would have been a better experience if he briefly spoke about this. I have done other SPSS course where they discussed the resources and I was able to work in the datasets as the course was presented (i.e. learning via doing). The presenter did not emphasise this and I believe this was a missed opportunity for the learner.

Good course. I think it a good beginnning for what is describes, but if you want to be a good researcher you'll need more SPSS knowledge which I hope the other courses by this teacher will provide me.

Very basic analysis. Likert is typically not analyzed with just mean, because ordinal data is not the same between responses

I've used SPSS in the past at a very high level. I feel I got some very valuable information from this course, especially about re-coding. I think this course was worth the time invested.

I couldn't find the datasets so the only thing we can do is follow the video instead of actually doing the activities. The resources in lecture do not have an extension, so difficult to use. No dataset however. Course was clear.

So far, I'm really impressed. However, one suggestion. The long lecture with the reverse coding of test scores seemed a bit irrelevant. The point was made, but it took a really long time. Simply doing that with the Likert data in the next lecture would have been easier, more efficient, and generally in line with the purpose of this lecture series. Overall, great job. Just some helpful feedback.

It was a good introduction to SPSS (its navigation). There was much repetition to the material, and the topic of using Likert scales seemed used more like an example to help navigate SPSS. I really would have liked to learn more about surveys using Likert scales with SPSS taking a back seat in the presentation. It's unfortunate that this course is presented by an organization and no name associated with this course.

I learned a lot about the various features of SPSS. I was only using the very rudimentary tools (mean/median/mode) but now I feel much more comfortable to use the other statistical measures.

It was really helpful! I have been searching everywhere for this information, but now I found it. Thanks a lot!

Great course! Very clear and academic manner ... very comfortable and step by step! Thanks! The only disadvantage is that the author doesn't share data, all data should be put manually in SPSS.
