What you will learn
Model basic unit operations and very basic chemical processes
Simulate basic unit operations in industrial processes
Understand the concept of Flowsheet and Manipulate it
Set up the required/basic inputs for a Simulation
Choose a Fluid Package for Physical Properties Modeling
Get reporting results
Why take this course?
This is simple course on Plant Simulation via Aspen HYSYS will show you how to:
- Set a fluid package
- Manipulate a Flowsheet
- Add unit operations
- Input all the minimum required data.
This is helpful for students, teachers, engineers and researchers in the area of R&D and Plant Design/Operation.
The course is didactic, with the minimum theory required to work on the Simulation Case (hands-on-workshop)!

yes im learniing about my field. Im interested in what a chemical engineer gets involved in and he clears the path.

The course was too small and basic. Instead of one single process multiple small process would have been better

Crude characterization basics could have been explained. no logical functions like adjust, recycle etc explained.
Last chapter of 57 min is simply repetition and can be eliminated.

The tutor is very knowledgeable and experienced on the subject. No doubt about that. From him, I have learned how to start using the software and modeling a process.
My only gripe, however, is about how lectures are presented which made my learning process a struggle. The frequent and constant ALT+TAB maneuvering to shift from one window screen to another was quite uncomfortable and distracting. I felt that the contents were uploaded in its unedited/raw state.

A good introduction to the software; it clearly shows the potential of this powerful tool and how easy it is to use
This course is a must for beginners who need a leading path/global steps to follow in order to achieve a correct simulation.

As an introduction to Aspen HYSYS the course did a good job of explaining where the various tools reside within the program, how to setup the properties and simulation tabs, as well as a couple of ways to analyze the simulation results once everything is working as intended. It would've been nice if some time had been taken to briefly cover the Flowsheet/Modify section of the Simulation tab, but that's a minor complaint. I feel much more confident navigating the program which was the main outcome I was hoping for. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in Aspen HYSYS and process modelling in general!
That being said, one easily fixed complaint I have with the course is that a problem statement for the modeled simulation was not explicitly included in the course materials. An additional lecture or appended document that provides an in-depth explanation of the overarching processes, necessary reactions/constituents, and unit operations required to reach a desired result or product would've been extremely useful in my opinion. I believe this information was included in a PowerPoint presentation as mentioned on Lecture 24, however I was not able to access this specific file on Udemy or on Chemicalengineeringguy.com. Other than that, I really enjoyed the course!
