What you will learn

Learn how to develop Microservices with Spring Boot

Learn how to deploy and manage Spring Boot Microservices with Spring Cloud

How to deconstruct a monolith into Spring Boot Microservices

Best Practices for Developing RESTFul APIs with Spring MVC

How to consume RESTFul APIs using Spring RestTemplate

Using Java Bean Validation with Spring Boot

Why take this course?

Microservices are all the buzz in the industry right now.

Building a microservice is not just a matter of using RESTFul APIs.

Microservices are much MUCH more than that.

In this course you will learn that Microservices are an architectural style. The allow companies to achieve massive scale while maintaining a high degree of flexibility.

This course goes beyond simple RESTful APIs and explores microservices as an architectural style.

** What Students are Saying about the Course **

5 STARS Great course, you can be sure about it. If you're fairly new to the java world and spring framework, I highly suggest to follow Spring Framework from beginner to guru (the teacher is always John). In my experience I can tell you that after the first course, I managed to progress in my career twice, with praises of my colleagues and managers. The content of both courses is very well explained and easy to learn. If you want to stand out, definitely this course worth the money.

5 STARS Very good course on microservices with Spring! It gave me a good starting point for the upcoming task at my work! 5* all the way for John!

5 STARS I like this course a lot! It's exactly what I needed after some experience with Spring Boot, to go to the next level. A lot of applications are presented, giving the opportunity to exercise what you've learned. The assignments are also very welcomed.

5 STARS Very VERY good content, well structured approach and clear explanations. Very enjoyable and educative. I'm even picking up a few techniques / frameworks I hadn't really used before.

About the Course

Traditionally, large enterprise class applications were developed as large monolithic applications.

The Spring Framework started as an alternative to J2EE (now JEE) for building these large monolithic enterprise applications.

As the industry evolved to favor microservices over monoliths, the Spring Framework and Spring Boot evolved also.

The Spring Framework gives you a battle-tested enterprise grade framework for building applications.

Spring Boot and Spring Cloud are tools specifically for the development of microservices using the Spring Framework.

Microservices present a unique set of challenges over monoliths. Spring Boot and Spring Cloud help you overcome these changes.

  • What are these challenges that microservices have, which traditional monoliths do not?

  • Is it okay for microservices to share databases?

  • How do you coordinate business logic across a series of microservices?

  • How do you manage transactions across serval microservices with different databases?

To explain these questions, in this course you get to explore a traditional Spring Boot monolith type of application. (Along the style of Spring Pet Clinic).

We will then re-create this monolithic application using a set of microservices.

You get to see, step by step how to build 3 different microservices.

Microservices are much more than just having a set of RESTFul APIs. Microservices frequently use asynchronous messaging systems, which is fully covered.

While the Spring Framework and Spring Boot are the tools you use to construct Microservices, Spring Cloud provides the tools to deploy microservices.

You get to see the latest tools in Spring Cloud for deploying Spring Boot Microservices into a distributed (or cloud) environment.

In 2018, Netflix announced several core projects to Spring Cloud were entering maintenance mode. Meaning no new development would be done on these projects.

Thus, in December of 2018, the Spring Cloud Team recommended several key replacements:

Previous               Replacement

Hystrix         -->      Resliience4J

Ribbon         -->     Spring Cloud Load Balancer

Zuul 1           -->     Spring Cloud Gateway

Archaius 1    -->    Spring Cloud Config

Therefore, the recommend replacements are covered in this course.

Heavily detailed, i think one of the best course which teaches production ready concepts, but the course is not properly structured and delivered. It will be the best course out there if its delivered properly

as the first sections are still introductory sections, I was surprised at how generous is the author for providing an IntelliJ subscription for 120 days and I think I'm going to learn a lot from the upcoming videos.

The course is well designed, covers all all aspects of Spring boot and microservice architecture in detail - quite lengthy though! Also, following the example and hands on along the path is a plus. Thank you.

Old material, many deprecated parts, uses own repository for dependencies because the official ones stopped working. All the course is unplanned and generally major mess which makes it a time waste. This course was made for a quick buck, for people who previously bought another part in Spring Boot series.

I was waiting a course about how to build modern microservice app with spring boot, but the whole course was about anything exept microservices... The course not updated, each lesson was like 1-2 hours to try run the code with depricated dependencies.... Not recommended course!

The course explains a lot of old and new concepts of the emergent microsserices "wave" of capabilities. It breaks down the monolith structure along with their advantages/disavantages in order to show throughout the way several microsservices with unique responsabilites and how they behave from development up to production. Really fascinating how the spring ecossystem play along with the third party technologies involved like: activemq, zipkin, docker and more.

Too many elements in one course. The course should rather be divided into a couple of parts (courses).

Horrible course, do not recommend at all. Constanlty jumping between projects, you can't write anything normally. Instead of microservices, 100 lectures in a row are told about nothing (and this all in 100 different projects)

I haven't completed the course yet. The content quality and coverage of the topic is good and I would like to give 5 starts. But I can't because links to starting points of all course assignments do not point to relevant commits in github but to fully completed projects. That makes doing the assignments terrible because you have to setup project to do the assignment yourself which is ridiculous. Besides the author states that during the course he will develop a sample microservice and he does it but at some point in the course this microservice is abandoned and no more lectures concerning the development of it are present.

The concepts are not explained in a way that would help a beginner to understand Spring Boot and microservices concepts

It’s a very lengthy course and too much technical explanation. It’s very useful for technical developers who want to learn Spring Boot Microservices.

John is an awesome and instructor, and very thorough. His walkthrough of the most useful features of the Spring framework were outstanding. I really love that he followed through with deployment all the way to production using Docker and Eureka. I will definitely be taking more of John's coursework to enhance my current skills and to build up new skills.

I feel like the course really started hitting its stride around section 10 and I've been enjoying the ride much more since then.

Very complete! But the length of the course is very daunting. There are some "niche" subjects that could possibly be moved to an "advanced" type course.
