From Michael Hauge, author of the Best Selling Udemy Screenwriting & Storytelling Course: Screenwriting and Story Blueprint: The Hero's Two Journeys.

You walk on an elevator and just before the door closes Steven Spielberg gets on. You have 60 secs to pitch him your latest screenplay. What do you do?

Your goal is to have your audience say “yes, I understand, and I care” after reading or watching your brand story.

If your audience just says “now I know” then you have successfully informed them but not enough to make them care, to make them stay to whatever you have to say next. They DON'T teach you this in Film School!

Your career can be made in 60 seconds - if you make the right pitch!

Master the Elevator Pitch, even when you've got less than 60 seconds. Get your screenplay or Novel read by the major power of Hollywood - guaranteed!

Instructor Michael Hauge walks your through his process of breaking down the key elements of your story and how to pitch them in 60 secs

I really like the completeness of the concept and the format, really helpful - and I'm using this as an introduction to the book, which i also own but have yet to read

Though I've still to complete the course - I'm nearly there - I'm finding it very informative. It's like Michael is one of your friend's, talking you through the process, casual and easy to follow. Straight to the point too.

Everything the speaker is elaborating to is familiar to what I already know, read and heard about 'pitching'.

This is a great course on pitching. It gives you a formal structure and how to apply it. I would recommend it for anyone learning to pitch.

Material was dry. He could have used specific examples from existing films or screenplays to help make his point. Later on he started using more examples but it was still pretty dry.

A lot of what is covered is basic and general. You can easily Google it. There is some notions that you must have a script to pitch, this is not 100% true - studios buy pitches, albeit rare, but you don’t need to learn the art of pitching an executive or producer if you have a good script, representation or a relationship. It’s become uncommon to have a physical in person or phone pitch these days when a script is plenty. As a new writer, you’re most likely not going to get an in person or phone pitch in hopes of optioning or getting development money. Again, so much of this is online...nothing really revealing here. And a pitch takes more than 60 seconds; don’t be fooled. And do keep in mind that IF you pitch, questions can and will come during it, not just after. AND a great script is important but energy is equally important; this isn’t covered. If you aren’t passionate in the pitch, the person listening won’t be. That should be covered.

This course was a great course on pitching - anything. I'm not a screenwriter or an author, but I want to understand story and effective pitching better. This is a great course to start with.
