THIS COURSE IS NOW UPDATED - Rating applies to previous version of the course.

What You'll Learn:

🚀 Dive into Robotics Design & Fabrication

  • Master the basics of robotics focusing on three primary types: Differential drive mobile robots, self-balancing robots, and SLAM bots with 2D LiDAR.
  • Gain insights into electronic components placement, CAD sketching, and 3D printing to ensure your robots are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

🛠️ Hands-On Experience

  • Design and build your own mobile robot using FreeCAD, a powerful open-source parametric 3D modeler.
  • Learn the intricacies of robotics design with detailed explanations for each step of the process.

🎓 Skill Mastery

  • Acquire the skills to place required components efficiently.
  • Understand how to hold components securely to a body.
  • Sketch and model robotic bodies accurately.
  • Translate your designs into physical models through 3D printing.
  • Design covers and plan electronic wire pathways effectively.

Course Projects: 🧩

You'll work on real-world projects that will bring your learning to life, including:

  • Line Following Robot: Learn the basics by constructing a robot that can follow a line on a surface.
  • Differential Drive Robot: Expand your skills with a more complex project, creating a robot that can move in any direction.
  • Self Balancing Robot: Challenge your knowledge further with a robot that maintains balance and stability.

Course Structure: 📚

  • Understanding the Components: Place electronic components correctly to ensure functionality.
  • Designing the Body: Sketch and model the body of your robot using FreeCAD, focusing on design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • 3D Modeling: Transform your 2D sketches into detailed 3D models ready for printing.
  • 3D Printing: Learn the ins and outs of preparing your model for 3D printing, including cover designs and wire pathways.
  • Assembly and Testing: Assemble your robot and test its functionality, troubleshooting any issues along the way.

This course has several good points in regards to how to design a robot to fit the designers needs. I liked the use of Fusion 360 as a design tool and did pick up a couple of tips on its use. I appreciate the instructor's candor in showing his mistakes, but the presentation could be made better if the mistakes are eliminated from the final presentation. This is a good place for a beginner to start.
