What you will learn

Students who work through the exercises will end the course with an edited novel.

Students Will Improve Both Writing and Editing Skills

Learn to effectively and efficiently edit novels.

Why take this course?

Attract Agents, Editors, and Readers

Are you a writer struggling to get a literary agent or editor excited about your novel? Are you a self-publishing author who can't afford the high costs of hiring a freelance novel editor? This course is for you!

Editing is the key to becoming a successful novelist. Anyone can churn out the first draft of a novel, but not everyone understands how to polish and shine that first draft into something literary agents, editors, and readers will get excited about!

Tailored Lectures and Advice

As the instructor, I will be available to answer questions daily, usually within a few hours. So you never have to worry about getting stuck.

Plus, this course will be constantly in development. New lectures will be added as students pose questions and need extra help. The more students who sign up, the more time I will have to spend on creating new content.

Save Money

Hiring a professional freelance novel editor costs between $800 and $3,000 for a full length book, and if you don't learn how to edit your own novel, you will pay this fee for each and every novel you have professionally edited. With this course, you will have lifetime access, so you can use it over and over again with each of your novels for no extra charge.

Students will also get a 10% discount for life on all of my professional novel editing services.

Achieve Your Publishing Dreams

Blow your competitors out of the water, gain new readers, or finally impress that agent you've had your eye on! Join the course and improve your writing and editing skills today!

Very informative, and easy to follow. Ms Brock is an expert on what a good novel should possess in terms of structure.

If your writing has info dumps and unnecessary chapters and you spend too much time telling rather than showing, this course offers some great tips to lift the quality of your fiction.

This was an excellent introduction to editing your own novel! I found a lot of useful concepts to apply. It's not super in-depth, but it covers a lot of material.

I've been writing fiction for three decades. And I'm still learning skills and tools from this course. I feel like I'm meeting with a developmental editor. I love this course.

Finished the course. Loved it! Some people may state it's too much of a beginner course for them but for me personally, I got a lot of tools out of it and will be using these tools when going through the first draft of my book and then when I do first run edit. Even when I came across sections when I got impatient and went, "Yeah I know all this." I didn't. I still learned useful things. Ellen Brock is great and explains things easily. I really enjoyed this course.

I loved this course. Revising is an Achilles' heel for me so seeing the common problems laid out with examples will make future titles easier to look through. I recommend this to anyone who needs a beginner course on revisions and authors who've been around a while and struggle with revising their novels.

I am impressed by the presenter (Ellen Brock) and I have been following her blog and You Tube videos for the past year (while I've been writing/rewriting/editing my novel). She is clear, concise and provides a rationale and examples to back up her key points.

very good course, she really digs in important details that could be blocking your novel that you would have never been able to foresee

This course is terrific. You learn how to write correctly for a smooth flow to your book and how to be sure you covered all the components of good writing. She has you look at your book for the necessary qualifiers and teaches you how to know when to take out what is not needed. This is a great course and easy to understand. I definitely recommend this course.

I just finished your class and it was very informative. It reminded me of everything I learned about proper story telling in college, but had forgotten over the past six years grunt work. I now realize that I have failed at making an omnipresent narrator and am attempting to shoe horn it into a limited 3rd person view…Though, I’m not sure how that will work, since it’s presented as a novelized 30’s serial. I also need to cleanse my book of data dumps. I was told by beta readers, that the opening was boring, because it’s 2 pages of condensed future earth history, done in the style of 30’s - 60’s sci fi narrator. I realize now that this style of storytelling just doesn’t appeal to the newer generation of readers. It's sad that the stylings of Philip K. Dick’s and his ilk are no longer relevant, but I will try to adapt accordingly. When I finish my re-write, I would like to utilize your discount and send you my first chapter to see what you’d do with it.Currently it sits about 36,000 words, so I can’t afford to send you the entire manuscript in one go, but wouldn’t mind feeding it out a chapter at a time over a several months. Anyway, thank you for making this short, but informative class.William I just finished your class and it was very informative. It's hard to write something that applies to so broad a field as revision and editing, especially since everyone has different problems in their writing and difficulties in editing and revision. This course handled the basics and foundational pieces well, setting the aspiring writer up for success. Even seasoned professionals would stand to gain something from this course. It was definitely worth enrolling.

This course is very insightful for first time novel writers. It tells you what and what not to do in order to get published. I've never written professionally but after this I have more confidence that I can.
