HOW IS THIS COURSE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PROOFREADING COURSES?

Proofread Like a Pro is a comprehensive course that digs deep into the skills you need to be a successful proofreader. But what really sets this course apart is its practicality.

Proofreading is a skill you learn best by doing. That’s why, in Proofread Like a Pro, you won’t simply be bombarded with information about proofreading. After almost every lecture, you’ll be presented with a proofreading exercise designed to test your understanding of the material – and hone your ability to catch typical errors.

What’s more, as a professional copywriter, Dr Clare Lynch understands time is money. That's why the most often used words in reviews of her courses are 'clear' and 'concise'. So every lecture is punchy, pacey and packed with easy-to-grasp advice. No fluff. No padding. No repetition.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE THIS INSTRUCTOR?

Dr Clare Lynch has a PhD in English literature from the University of Cambridge, where she also now teaches writing skills.

Clare is also an editor, proofreader and professional copywriter with 20+ years’ experience of helping big-name corporate clients get their messages across clearly, accurately, precisely and compellingly.

Clare is also a qualified and highly experienced corporate trainer and facilitator. So she’s been trained to communicate even the most complex, technical ideas in a way that’s memorable, entertaining and addictively engaging.

That's why, in October 2019, Udemy bestowed their Student Success award on Clare for her dedication to her Udemy students.

A WORD OF WARNING: WHAT THIS COURSE IS NOT

This course is not a superficial beginner’s guide to proofreading. It’s designed to give you the skills to proofread professionally.

Although the course covers some aspects of grammar, spelling and punctuation, it is not a comprehensive guide to the correct use of English.

To get the most out of this course, you should already have a strong grasp of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.

If that sounds like you, enrol in Proofread Like a Pro today!

If you're interested in proofreading professionally, this course is a fantastic place to start. Dr Lynch delivers clear and concise lectures throughout and provides students with plenty of additional downloadable information to retain for future reference. There are also plenty of activities where students can test their newly-acquired knowledge as they progress. All in all, a brilliant introduction to the world of proofreading!

This course exceeded my expectations! I had taken several other "proofreading" courses prior and they were a let down. In this course there was a lecture and instruction. After most lectures there were exercises to test what we had learned, as well as information covered in previous sections. It helped a lot to put to practice what I had learned, and sadly it had me thinking I need a whole lot more practice. Luckily, there are additional exercises included for more practice. This course covered different styles from different countries, and I'm in the US. The instructor, however, is in the UK and the proofreading symbols she presented differed somewhat from the ones I have seen in a previous course, especially the most important one for "delete," which I have now seen as 3 different symbols. The topic of electronic proofreading was not covered at all, and I have read of courses where the proofreading is done on an I-pad using an app instead of paper and proofreading symbols. For myself I prefer using an electronic method to read and want to look into that further. That said, the course covered a lot of material and the instructor was open to questions and answered them in a timely manner.

I usually have to pause my Udemy videos to type important notes, but with this course I could focus my full attention on each lecture, knowing that the course materials include a handy workbook that contains all the content from the lectures. I also love that there are many opportunities to practice and hone my proofreading skills.

This is the 3rd of Clare's courses that I have taken, and each one has been excellent. The information is timely and up-to-date. Clare is a very good speaker. Her videos are well-produced and easy to follow. I also appreciate all the links and downloadable information she provides, as well as the ample opportunities to practice. Ready for my next class!

After proofreading my own work for some time, I felt I needed a refresher. Clare's highly informative and detailed course has taught me - just as I hoped it would - that however long you have been doing an activity such as proofreading, there is always something new to learn. Clare's teaching style is engaging, succinct and instructive, and the exercises accompanying each session were excellent. I found the sessions on the less obvious aspects of proofreading, such as graphic and visual elements and academic citations, particularly useful. Highly recommended, not just for anyone coming to proofreading new but also to those looking to refresh their skills.
