What you will learn

Process mining

The role of process mining in the broader context of business process management

Applied process mining with Celonis Free Plan (Formely Celonis Snap)

Hands-on practical experience with process mining use cases of various degrees of complexity

Why take this course?

An important aspect for many organizations is the flow of work between different parts of the organization. Traditionally, experts would use business process modeling techniques to visualize how these processes should be. This is a very labor intensive exercise. Moreover, in practice, the actual process may be very different from what is drawn on paper. This gap can be filled by applying process mining. Process mining uses actual data to visualize what the process is, rather than what the process is thought to be.

Process mining is a relatively young research discipline that sits between computational intelligence and data mining on the one hand, and process modeling on the other hand. The idea of process mining is to discover, monitor and improve real processes by extracting knowledge from data readily available in an organization’s information systems. It is a tool to improve the design, redesign, control, and support of operational business processes.

In this course, students are introduced to the discipline of process mining using a healthy blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice. The theoretical parts of this course are drawn from leading academic publications. The hands-on practice parts will be conducted in the leading process mining software application that is democratizing process mining for the masses, Celonis Free Plan (formely Celonis Snap).

Who this course is for:

This course is most valuable for people that work in an organization in which products and services are the result of processes that leave a digital footprint. Examples are people advising organizations on:

  1. Assembly line industrial manufacturing;

  2. Coordinating patient journeys through a hospital;

  3. The flow of loan applications at a bank;

  4. Logistic coordination and supply chain management;

  5. Customer journeys.

This course will radically transform the ability of students to discover, monitor and enhance these processes

In addition to this, people that work with systems such as Scientific management (Taylorism), Kanban, Kaizen, Lean Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, Bottleneck Identification and Just-In-Time (JIT) will greatly benefit from this course, because process mining unlocks a data-driven factor into these approaches to production process management.

Other types of students that will benefit from this course are:

  1. Individuals with a background in business process management, process mapping, flowcharting and business process modelling (BPM / BPMN).

  2. Individuals with a background in data science that want to acquire skills that directly contribute to the value chain of organizations.

  3. Individuals responsible for creating a Digital Twin of an organization and/or involved in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) projects (such as UiPath), that need to have a clear grasp on the ongoing processes in an organization in order to be able to prioritize competing process automation projects.

  4. Individuals in charge of process auditing.

  5. Individuals curious about process mining.

What this course is NOT about:

- This course is intended to be hands-on and practical. Therefore, only limited attention will paid to the underlying (alternative) theories of process modelling and mining. The focus will be on applied process mining with Celonis Free Plan (formerly Celonis Snap).

- Although process mining overlaps with the domain of business process modeling & notation (BPMN), this course is not about BPMN. BPMN is only elaborated on in the context that is relevant for process mining, such as conformance checking.

- Although process mining overlaps with the domain of data science, this course is not about data science. Data science is only elaborated on in the context that is relevant for process mining.

- This course will not cover how to integrate Celonis with an organization's information system and/or data warehouse as part of its information architecture.

This course provides an excellent introduction to Process Mining, especially for beginners, and its application using Celonis. You can expect to gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals of process mining and how to leverage Celonis filters to gain valuable process insights. However, it's worth noting that due to changes in Celonis over the years, some examples provided in the course may not be as straightforward to replicate. While these examples are still feasible, they aren't explicitly covered in the course material. Fortunately, Dennis, the instructor, is quick to provide assistance if you encounter any difficulties. One minor drawback of the course is that it slows down a bit in section 12, where previously discussed topics are revisited with only minimal new information introduced. I strongly recommend the addition of a dedicated learning section focused on PQL coding for KPI filters. If this were included, the course would undoubtedly deserve a solid 5-star rating!

I found this to be a good introduction to process mining. I never knew this existed, my employer wanted me to take this class and I can now see why. This will be a very handy tool. I wish, however, more time was spent on the PQL component.

I really liked this course. Very Well explained with very good examples. I did not know much about process mining earlier, however, the instructor covered it in a very structured manner which made it easy to understand. I found it better than any other Celonis courses available out there.

i'm actually working as a Data Analyst. Before i had no idea of what process mining was. This course has been very helpful to give me an overview and a practical undestand of this world.

Nice intro to the Celonis. The course is focused on practical aspects of process mining with the application of Celonis. There is not much about the underlying theory of process mining. I miss some information on what discovery algorithm is used by Celonis and way it is so. If algorithm cannot be presented, then at least some information on its general working would be nice.

This course is geared toward people who had no previous experience with process mining and Celonis so I have expected it to start from explaining the idea of process mining and then teaching us how to use Celonis. While material presented gave some basic theoretical overview of process mining and in practical part included few good points (like idea to remove spider activities to untangle a bit the spaghetti map), it barely scratched the surface of it's subject, with the practical part being especially underwhelming. Celonis looks very interesting and seems to give great possibilities for analyzing processes but what was shown were basically some filtering tools, a bit of grouping and sliders to move around to see the processes in more or less details. There are few things that I would consider changing as at least for me they didn't work in that training: - Showcasing more of Celonis capabilities, things that were presented were extremely basic and while it's nice to see them on a video example, most of them could be found by user during couple first days of using Celonis while going blind with just playing around with the tool, - PQL - the chapter about PQL lacked any explanations on the syntax and going into more examples of what can be done and how functions work in it. It's nice that the query builder was shown but my experience with query builders in other tools suggests that they are limited and rather sooner than later comes the moment when you need to write something on your own. - Presentation speed - everything was presented pretty slowly. I do understand that it might be done on purpose (not everyone has the some processing speed of English especially when it is a 2nd language). Thankfully there is option to up the speed of the video so this wasn't that problematic. - Length of lessons - entire training is about 4,5h and is chopped into 98 lessons, which in my opinion is way to many and wasn't necessary. For example filtering activities could have been combined into one 11 minute lesson. The same goes for AND/OR filters which were divided into theory lesson and practice lesson, when it could have been in one 5 minutes long video. The lessons are on average between 3 to 5 minutes (some are shorter and only 8 out of 98 are longer, 7 of those 8 being 6 minutes long). I felt like I was watching Youtube shorts as all the time I was going to next lesson and next and so on. While very short lessons might give a quick gratification and sense of accomplishment (yay I've finished another lesson!), at the same time it gives this idea of doing a break after every lesson as a reward for completing some small part of the course. For me it didn't help with concentration, in fact quite the opposite, I had to focus very hard not to get distracted by something else while the training was going to next lesson.

Overall course content was good. Lots of hands-on workings were helpful. Possible improvement areas 1. Captions/subtitles can be improved as sometime auto generated subtitles are slightly misleading 2. No of videos in healthcare example can be reduced because the major concept covered were sequencing and spider activity ... but it felt some basic stuff which are covered in earlier part of course being repeated. Overall, a must to do course.... Thanks .

I finished this course within a week without any PQL and Process Mining experience at all. The process mining concepts were explained very clearly through using Celonis, and the lectures were easy to follow along. I enjoyed having the Assessments and Challenges as places to check that I have understood what I have learned. I fell in love with Celonis mining. I can truly recommend to beginners.
