Description

Singer/songwriters with strong rhythmic feel can create unique songs and cover modern songs authentically!

Strong rhythmic feel can take your playing to a professional level!

It's the difference between a YouTube cover artist who plays a 100 songs the same way (just a wash of that same rhythm pattern he or she knows), and somebody who can interpret songs authentically and create their own rhythm patterns.

Having a strong command of rhythm patterns allows each song to be different, not a wash of the same feeling.

That's why the music of piano wielding singer/songwriters like Ben Folds, Carole King, Sara Bareilles, Diane Birch, Gavin DeGraw, make you feel alive.  It's all in the Rhythm.

But how do you gain strong rhythmic feel?

It's not about memorizing a few rhythm patterns.  That's not what these artists are doing.

Gaining strong rhythmic feel requires rhythm pattern immersion.

This course will immerse you in the 8th note rhythm pattern feel that genre's such as Rock, Pop, Folk, Country, are built upon.

You'll play 8th note rhythm pattern, after 8th note rhythm pattern, after 8th note rhythm pattern, until that feel is internalized.

At the end of this immersion course you will have "8th note feel" and will be able to create your own rhythm patterns for your own songs, and cover other songs authentically.

  • You'll gain strong internal rhythm
  • You'll be able to play complex 8th note rhythms
  • You'll viscerally understand the difference between 8th note Swing and 8th Note Straight
  • You'll understand concepts like Anticipation, Syncopation, Backbeats, Texture
  • You'll experience melodic piano hooks and begin creating your own

I'm excited to show you what I've prepared for you!

If you are too, I'll see you on the inside!

Excellent course with great examples of engaging rhythms. The one drawback is that it's impossible to remember them (at least for me). My request is that Rob transcribe the patterns in music notation, at least a measure or two of each, and provide their pdf's. It's extremely time consuming as a novice to try to notate them, and I don't know if they're accurate. So that would bring the course to 10 stars!

I love this guy! I've completed several of his courses and he has a simple way of explaining difficult concepts. It's great to rehash these skills as a review every few months. As a synth player in a band I don't always follow a solid practice regime, ie. scales, arpeggios, technical exercises, etc. so utilising this course, and others, helps me to get back to more practice of the keyboard. I love it!

Bandaids on instructors hands are distracting. Otherwise good. Music notation of all exercises would have been nice.

Thank you Rob for your course on Rhythm patterns. It was exactly what I was looking for. You explained very well and you have a nice voice too. The only thing that I would suggest for improvement would be to incorporate the rhythms in songs like you did in course 1.

Not as good as the first one IMHO. The first part provided some more generic ideas about accompaniments, while this one only drew fro ma few pop songs. However, helpful ideas included and presentation is almost spotless.

Another teacher tried explaining the difference between swing and straight 8th notes and I couldn't understand what the neck he was talking about, then Simon explains it and it's as simple and as clear as a bell. He is an excellent teacher! But all of his courses! I have and I'm progressing in leaps and bounds, as the saying goes.

Very clear, easy to follow instructions that were broken down in manageable pieces. I learned so much. I now have skills to help me either make my own accompaniment up or try to follow what is on a record.

Interesting content with clear and easy to follow instructions from an articulate and pleasant teacher who is obviously very well qualified to present this course. Progress through the course is made in logical steps with no skill blocks so far. I would have given 5 stars if music scores or more detailed tabs were available in the notes for each example as it is a bit tiresome searching through the videos each time you want to practice a previous exercise that you haven't committed to memory. Excellent course, I would recommend it.

I have found that doing some of the lessons twice is very helpful. The level of the teaching is excellent.

this course is excellent and very well layed out again like the other courses from Rob! Finally not a course starting from the very beginning, but has the rhythms in focus. Exactly what i need in my short playing career and i would love to see more offered in this detailed and clever methodoloy. Definitely one of the best music/ piano courses here on Udemy. Please Rob extend this course with some material, especially i would love to see the pdf files of the rhythms - or maybe with some more songs ;-) thank you so much for this great teachings!
