Mr. Gaither - I hope you get a chance to read this review. The idea is fantastic! I really like how Mr. Gaither organized the different tracks into different styles of hip-hop. Here are the issues - I would prefer more than just a simple, "by rote" video. Maybe talk about similarities in style, talk about chord progressions, etc. It seems like Mr. Gaither is familiar with the history of the tracks, and I would love to hear more about that! The video quality is also an issue. There are plenty of inexpensive webcams (or phones for that matter) available online that would produce a much better product. There were a few occasions where he misspoke in the first video. There's really no reason to publicly upload a product with clear errors, especially when people are paying money for it. He needs to do a few more takes of each video, tighten it up and make it more clear. The biggest issue for me is with the pdf and midi files. There are plenty of "by rote" videos online for free, so I figured that the pdfs and midis would be helpful. Some SERIOUS editing needs to be done. There is no reason why a string of 8th notes (see Dynasty Intro) should look like something from a John Cage percussion ensemble. It seems like he just played the tracks into a midi keyboard through a program, and did absolutely no editing what-so-ever. To be frank, it's unprofessional. Like I said at the beginning, it's a great idea. PLEASE consider making some changes. - Re shoot the videos with a higher quality camera - Make sure the takes are TIGHT. No student wants to learn from a teacher who doesn't seem sure of himself. - Edit the midi files and PDFs so they are correctly and clearly notated. - Explain the difference in production style. Maybe make some exercises for how to create your own tracks in that style using the same compositional devices. Are there common rhythmic or harmonic patterns? Do certain styles have faster or slower harmonic rhythm? Are there genres or artists that have influenced each style? You could easily make a 5 to 10 minute introduction video on each production style to talk about history, influences, harmonic and rhythmic concepts. That alone would be worth the $25. If you make those changes, I will certainly change my review to 5 stars and I'm sure that other people will to. Until then, I would not recommend that anyone waste their time and/or money. PLEASE FIX THIS. There is nothing else on the internet like this, and it needs to be done well!
