This quick and dirty course will help you make original, custom digital paintings and illustrations using Adobe Photoshop (or any similar program) in just a matter of minutes that look professional and can be used online, in videos and animations, or for print purposes such as on a poster, letterhead, even a T-shirt or other products.
*Please note that free trial versions of Photoshop are available for download from Adobe's website.
Save money making your own unique digital images and illustrations (and stop paying others to do them for you) and develop skills that can help you start making money creating professional-looking images for others. You can also use these simple techniques to make unique images and illustrations as free gifts for friends and family.
You also don't need to know how to draw. There are actually a HUGE number of graphic designers who CAN NOT draw... but they make up for it by using techniques like the ones in this course and naturally, learning more about layout design, composition, color, typography, and other fundamentals of visual literacy.
You can decide how much time you will spend on each image which will then affect your end results. As you do more and more, you can be cranking these out in a matter of minutes and could actually make a little illustration/digital painting business creating these for others on websites like Fiverr, Elance, and other freelancing websites.
What Students Are Saying:
"A great course by a great instructor. It was amazing to see the making of an image, with all the techniques, attention to detail, and also to hear the thinking process behind each decision. I found it stimulating and inspiring." -Robin Scanlon

Sofar I would say yes and no. What I have seen sofar was basic and at the same time an eye opener. What I would have like to learn better and have not seen yet, is have to draw / trace more realistic paintings, blending the image with the paint. I'd also like to learn lots more about the different brushes. My goal is to do portraits.
Il n'y avait qu'une partie qui m'a paru intéressante, celle sur les brosses, mais sinon j'ai trouvé ça un peu léger. J'aurais plus de trucs et astuces techniques.
Very good course. Her step-by-step directions are very easy to follow. It would be great to see her do a similar course using Procreate on an iPad.
Very informative course. I learnt a lott about painting photoshop. I never used the angle setting on brushes before but Kristen desmonstrated its effects quite well and I am happy to go explore further using this technique. Thanks!
I think the course is more for beginners, but Professor Palana provides helpful tips and shortcuts and explains her technique in detail.
This is the 2nd course I am taking with Kristen and I am glad that she keeps reminding her students of the importance of taking into account copyright laws when working on images gotten online. This is usually overlooked by most instructors I have taken courses with in the past. Great course Kristen. Thanks!
This was an exceptional course that takes a beginner from nothing to competency. It is a basic course, so it's not overwhelming to a newbie, but it delivers a very practical and usable skill. The instructor is thorough. The techniques are step-by-step. Easy to follow. Easy to understand.
I learned new ways to paint using a photo. The presentation was great and easy to follow. Great course. Eliz. F
The course is supposed to be about digital painting but there is only one example! The rest of the program is spent in trivial things at the expense of the real topic at hand. While the teacher is nice, I find the course to be misleading and of little value for my money.
I'm sorry to say I did not really learn much in this class. Unless you want to learn her own specific style of creating illustrative cartoon-like replicas of photographs, there's not much to learn here. There's not much education on the tools she uses that is transferrable to your own style. Disappointed.
I have no experience with computers and learnt so much. I did this course at my own pace and not feeling stress about the lessons. I have learnt so much. Thank u Kirsten.
Thanks to this course, learned some new skills that may help me with creating illustrations! Learned a lot from this, definitely!
I found this course to be fun and enlightening. I loved learn about new purposes of old tools in Photoshop, and lots of ah-ha moments turned on for me. As a person who cannot draw, this gave me the confidence to give it a try and to let go of the idea of having to be perfect. As I go, hopefully I will think outside the box and apply colors I had never consider as shown in this course. Thank you!
Moves along at just the right pace...not too fast, not too slow. Also like instructor's clear but relaxed vocal delivery..
I thoroughly enjoyed this course, especially the painting section. I can see many ways of using this skill Kristen passed on. Language was simple and clear to understand, the activity engaging as you see the artwork come to life, with faster motion reducing the time required to watch the process. Thanks Kristen. I learnt heaps.
