==========================Student Reviews======================

This is a great course for anyone needing to understand the pfSense firewall system. It was well worth both time and money. The presentation of the instructor was very professional, well thought out and the demonstrations were extremely relevant and easy to follow. -- David S. ★★★★★

This an excellent course, i started knowing nothing. Now I am no longer the one i was before starting and every topic is well organized... Hats off Ted, The instructor Ted made it become very easy for someone to learn. By the end of the course i feel very happy and ready to continue learning and keep practicing what I've learned from you. -- Hermann S.F. ★★★★★

Excellent overview, and quick initial setup of pfSense. Good coverage on mentioning you can set it up in monitor mode to observe your traffic for a few weeks, after basic rules are in place; then review the logs to put in place any remaining necessary rules. I've studied firewalls before; but first foray into pfSense. I like it. -- Kevin S. ★★★★★

pfSense is a full featured, open source firewall specific BSD build. You can download an image for free, and install it on your own hardware, or in your virtualized environment of choice, or purchase a very reasonably priced pre-configured device.

Even though pfSense is built on FreeBSD, you don't have to know BSD or Linux to manage your firewall. You are encouraged to do everything you need through the browser based Graphical User Interface (GUI).

The trainer is good and he knows what he's talking about, I just had different expectations when I read the description of the lecture, I thought I could finally understand Snort and Suricata and how to make rules let's say for a pfSense that protects some web servers I own and I am constantly having problems with IDS/IPS blocking normal traffic and making all websites going slow. The class talks about the rules very superficial and wastes too much time on how to install them for example. Having finished the lecture I can't say I have enriched my knowledge, at least to what I was expecting. But this is not to disencourage other people to learn, if you guys don't know pfSense and you want to learn it, this is a great lecture! Out of curiosity, do you have a more advanced lecture on pfSense? Or can you assist me in those servers having issues with suricata/snort?

Der Kurs war genau im meinem Lerntempo und hat mir eine guten ersten Eindruck in die Nutzung von pfSense gegeben. Bin kein gelernter ITler und konnte dennoch alles nachvollziehen.

Clear explanations and demo. A great course to initiate yourself to the principles of managing a firewall, not only Pfsense firewall. Good Job :p.

This course hardly addresses the basic functionality of Pfsense. No real word example like network infrastructure (or drawings), no consideration to any switch and no discussion about installing Pfsense on an actual appliance. This is a course about PfSense in a virtual vacuum.

As with most firewall systems, as soon as you made this they came out with a newer version. Things still match pretty well for using 2.6. But things like the DNS lesson right after setting up the firewall. 2.6 worked because of putting the DNS entry in the wizard setup. Oh Well!! Still a great course that I have learned a lot and getting comfortable using the GUI.. Thank You!!

This is what I needed! I wasn't aware of how important a firewall is until now. I was introduce to pfSense from a good friend of mines and he told me to look into it asap. So what I did was found this course on Udemy.com. This program is by far the best when it comes to understanding and setting up pfSense. Without it you will be lost so I recommend this to anyone that is new who is trying to comprehend how a firewall works and how to set up...

The course covered the topics that I wanted to learn about in securing the networks attached to the pfSense. The PDF files are helpful in following along with setting up and testing of the labs.

Content is getting a bit dated, and I'm missing a part of VPN setup. However, the course is very well and methodical explained, so I think it still deserves a very good rating. It is a good starting point to explore pfsense.

I have noticed a few errors in lessons, particularly in Lesson 13 where the solution to no internet via VMWare by re-assigning DNS servers works but is not the actual problem encountered. There are also places where the speaker says one thing but the screen shows another. The content is not bad overall, but it does make me take everything said with a grain of salt. I am taking this course to fill in gaps where I have them, so it is not a problem for me, but I can imagine this is a bad experience for new folks who are only starting out.

I am new to pfsense and for training I had been looking at blogs and youtube videos before joining course. This was a great entry level course and it was nice because it was mostly built on each step to higher more detailed levels. I definately will use the instructors course on pfsense for now and in the future resources. I also likes that he was diligent to add pdf docs for reference ass in times of need, watch a whole video is not user friendly, but looking through a chapter pdf with search features is much easier.

Good basic course, has not been kept up to date with the latest versions of the various packages that is walked through. Would be nice for more explanation of GEOIP security and some other things. Did help me get it setup and working as I followed along.
