Description

Last year, in 2019, I got a request from a student in to create a course on how to deal with emergencies. This is an important part of long term planning, and I put it on my to do list of courses to create sometime in the future.

Then, in January 2020, I learned about the Coronavisus (now COVID-19) and decided that I should make this course my top priority.

But this course isn't like my normal courses, where it's the result of years of accumulated effort.

This course is a rushed-course designed to give you the information I found to be most useful over the last month (2020.02) when I researched the field of Emergency Management and it's related fields on Crises, Disasters, etc.

I've collected the mental models, processes and ideas that I think are most valuable and put them into one place. I've also collected my favorite website, books, PDFs and other resources into one place so that you can check these out and do more learning for yourself, and keep up to date as things change.

The focus of this course is primarily on how to think about handling emergencies as an individual and as a leader in a family. I have not included much on COVID-19 itself because a lot of details are still uncertain or unknown, so I think it's better that I point you to the best places for up to date information and then you can use those to learn about the disease itself.

This course is one of the best guides to prepare for emergencies for all kinds of disasters. This'll help us to minimize the panic if ever a disaster strikes since we don't know what to expect when will it happen to us. The explanation about the 4 different types of emergency kits are good. However, some of the lectures of the final section are repetitive. Regardless, it's very informative for beginners.

A lot of what was presented in this course didn't happen as the pandemic went on. FEMA services were not working as talked about in this course. And they weren't working at all with the Texas storm recently. The course content was great but didn't at all match with reality. If I had to depend on it to save lives people would be dead. There is no mention of state infighting or the federal government doing nothing.

The material in the course was very informative. However, the delivery was very dry, there was no enthusiasm and the long pauses didn't help. The material that was put up on the screen was very hard to read because of sharp movement and most of the time it was out of focus.

Good resource for putting emergency plan and essential items in place. Additionally, his willingness to go through the tedious task of going through all the government emergency manuals for those of us who wouldn't have otherwise taken them on; much appreciated!

its survival in case of catastrophe. Same stuff I learned in the boy Scouts, but a little more in depth.

This course has been very informative and challenged me to think about all necessary steps to prepare for an unexpected emergency.

You are covering the basics and it is a good overall introduction. The vast majority of Americans do not do appropriate preparation, despite the gradual increase in disasters experienced here in the U.S. Hurricanes, Floods, Earthquakes (No Big One Yet), Influenza, Economic Recession, Riots, Protesting, Wild Fires (I live in the hills in L.A. County), and now Pandemics. Despite all these instances, vast majority of Americans don't prep, but expect the Government to care and provide for them.

The instructor is great when it comes to presenting the material. This course raises so many questions about readiness which will help me be prepared.

This kind of topic interests me a lot and that’s in regards to others view points on readiness for emergency events

The course is a good match for me due to making a plan or having a plan in place during an emergency is essential. Learning about what to have going forward and the contingency plans from FEMA and government assistance when needed is a true education on different levels of unforeseen combination of circumstances that require immediate action.

The class did offer some important information. Most valuable, in my opinion, was the discussion of the emergency kits.

I'm not sure if the lead was a good choice for this program. It seems that he was unsure of a lot of things in the course.
