Why take this course?

Person-Centred Counselling is a humanistic approach that emphasises the creation of a non-judgmental and empathetic therapeutic relationship, allowing clients to explore their feelings, experiences, and self-concept to facilitate personal growth and self-acceptance. In this introductory course, you will learn about the core concepts, theories and skills used in Person-Centred Counselling.

This course delves into the fundamental principles and techniques that define the practice of counselling. Rooted in the person-centred approach pioneered by Carl Rogers, you'll gain an in-depth understanding of how counselling empowers individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

The core tenets include three crucial conditions for therapeutic change: empathy, where the counsellor truly understands the client's perspective; unconditional positive regard, showing complete acceptance and non-judgment; and congruence, which is the counsellor's authenticity and transparency. Rogers believed that these conditions create the necessary psychological climate for clients to explore their feelings, thoughts, and experiences and, in turn, achieve greater self-understanding, self-acceptance, and personal development.

This humanistic approach places emphasis on the client's unique subjective experience and personal autonomy, emphasising the importance of the therapeutic relationship in fostering positive change. By studying concepts such as empathy, active listening, and unconditional positive regard, you'll learn about the process of creating a therapeutic space that allows clients to find solutions to their problems, gain self-awareness, and move forward on their personal growth journey.

This course is an invaluable gateway to comprehending the core principles of counselling and its practical application. It is a foundational resource for psychotherapists and mental health professionals interested in exploring in adding counselling skills to their work life, CV, or personal relationships.

We will cover:

  • Gain a deep understanding of the foundations and principles of person-centred counselling.

  • Develop a thorough grasp of key counselling terminology and concepts.

  • Explore the history and development of the person-centred approach, including its therapeutic alliance.

  • Differentiate person-centred counselling from other therapeutic modalities, such as psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural approaches.

  • Discover what it's like to work as a counsellor, including aspects of ethical frameworks, confidentiality, boundaries, and self-care.

  • Gain insights into outcome assessment and the evaluation of counselling effectiveness.

  • Explore the practicalities and considerations of telecounselling and working online.

You will learn through a variety of ways including video lessons, reading, reflection exercises and multiple-choice quizzes.

On completing the course, you will earn an accredited certificate in person-centred counselling skills. The course is accredited by the International Association of Therapists.

While I go for the CBT diploma and counseling would not be my first choice, the course (like all the instructor's other courses) is well presented. I learned that counseling is a bit too dynamic for me, and I like to have a kind of structure. So I dive into the instructor's CBT-related courses.

Yes this is a great match, I've taken courses from this instructor before and he really makes it easy to follow and uses language that's easy to understand even if you're not a person working in the mental health field.

It is getting a bit better, but it would be great to hear about some actual things (tips, advice, etc.) aplicable during the therapy session itself.

Chris Worfolk is a dedicated psychologist and formerly worked with computers and i.t His clinical knowledge which he shares with us throughout his well thought out, researched beyond expectation and then brought to us for a nominal fee are amazing insights and in-depth breaking down of the concepts of the human psyche and behaviour in a bid to pass on his clinical knowledge - with hopes of imparting new knowledge,, skills and a real understanding of the material contained within the courses - that we may add to it gain new, relevant skills and see psychology in a new light or perhaps delve into a psychology degree if not already employed within the field - chris also teaches life coaching and yoga a class which is or should be an introduction to yoga, its history and some of its poses and positions along with also teaching meditation to students - giving us a foundation on which to build a meditation practice for our own sanity and should we wish to the course and the resources provided will be of benefit in how to facilitate meditation classes. It is important to state that all of chris' classes come from a scientific and sound backing - he won't teach hocus pocus wishy washy thrown together mumbo jumbo - his material and his teaching are solidly based within fact and science - which are of today's best and up to date medical and scientific understanding and teachings of psychological constructs and chris breaks these down in a very down to earth and relatable manner - you also have an option of joining his fb group where you can or should find a link to his cognitive behaviouta therapy diploma course which is very much worth your time and your effort

Chris W. is definitely my favorite teacher so far. I have taken two of his courses and am thrilled with the passionate and clear way he teaches. It also invites you to ask yourself questions that have been critical to understanding myself. I am taking two of his courses that I had purchased from other teachers, this is because Chris is so much more passionate and knowledgeable than others. I am a voracious student and I study a lot, I love to study but it is not easy to find a teacher who really knows how to teach, Chris is. Then see you at your lessons!
