I love the techniques prescribed in this course to plan a novel! I'm definitely trying them out for my future novels!

The word he used were too complicated in places. I'd need a dictionary to understand it. Then he started talking about amazon and finding a genre. I went to amazon and typed in genre and didn't get anything like he said.

Fichtean Curve was something new I learnt from this course. Using Maisie's example, the instructor helps in explaining the concepts clearly. Good for newbie writers!

This was thoughtfully created to explain the process from end to end with proper context, examples and respective emphasis in each area. I am not a professional writer myself but after following his blueprint, I have greater awareness and understanding of how to use structure, process and other elements. In my opinion is a mindful approach towards encompassing creation process by hitting every nail on the head. When I'm ready to sit down and get to the drawing board for my outline, I'm certain, I'll be able to execute from his plan into my action, and will likely consider his other offerings. Do yourself a favor and give this relatively short course a chance because it will at very least yield some useful nuggets. (I for one can use all the help that I can get, so I can improve my writing; based on the great influx of new authors in modern day writing, it looks like many of us can benefit from more exposure to instructional works like this.)

Because, unlike the majority of the writing courses available, this one is no nonsense and straight to the point, which is what serious students really need and it answers the important questions with respect to learning the craft of novel writing.

While I appreciate the time the instructor took to create this free course, I can't give it a very high rating. The author has a great speaking voice and has a lot of good reviews for his books on Amazon so I'm surprised at how dry and choppy this course was. It's very obvious the instructor is reading directly from the page instead of simply having notes with key points and conversing with the audience. The included .pdf files are the scripts that he used. It's very telling that the scripts are full of solitary sentences instead of flowing paragraphs. It's like listening to a lecturer read nothing but bullet points for over an hour. Some of the author's statements are overly simplistic. For example, he states that you can't have a novel start off with a romance and end with a space battle, or have an exciting car chase at the beginning and end with a romance. Romance novels cover a wide range of sub-genres, including Science Fiction. Thrillers often have the hero and heroine fall in love by the end of the book. Yes, you need to know your genre but you should also know when to break or subvert genre expectations as well. Once the instructor finally gets to outlining, it gets better. It isn't a really a "how-to" but a "how-I-do" outlining. It's an interesting approach that works for people who hate formal outlining and are more scene-based. I think the course would have been much stronger if the instructor had lead with this and tied in items like protagonist vs antagonist as he went from the rough idea to the full outline. It would have made the concepts more interesting and more memorable. Overall, some good concepts in a very rough format.

Adds useful information on structure without encumbering one with unnecessary explanation that might obfuscate the valuable lessons within the lecture.

I have been exposed to some of the techniques before, but appreciate hearing them described in a different manner. I like the idea of taking the broad story outline and creating individual scene outlines. You really need to be familiar with your characters to know how they will react to the situations you will put them in.

The first time for me running through this course I came across a couple of concepts that were new to me in structuring my writings. I will no doubt listen to these courses again and get more from them. Thank you

So far, so good. A solid refresher for the things I learned in school well over ten years ago. I had forgotten how to develop good leading characters that evoke emotion. I am taking this course to re-familiarize myself with story structure and character development while revising and rewriting a recently written and heretofore unfinished short story that I plan to sell. This refresher is exactly the motivation I needed. As an update, I found much of this does not apply to my particular style of writing, but all the same, provides food for thought. It is nice to have personal examples for what works for the presenter, though I found much of the information seemed too preachy and dismissive of more modernist/postmodern approaches to narrative and structure. The information on character development is highly appreciated and will be used extensively, though the structure and planning will be used less thoroughly and more as a supplement to my own experimental approach. Thanks to the presenter for the excellent information as it has informed my current short project slightly and my ongoing major project extensively.

It's a good course, useful for first-time novelists. There are two things that makes it weird: It is more of an audiobook than an actual videocourse. The narrator even says at some point "as you have read above" or something of that sort. Some illustrations of what is narrated would be very useful: for example, when the lecturer tells about Fichtean curve and other structure patterns. Instead, we only see words on abstract images of bridges or a writer's table. Also there is no introduction to the course. There is an advertisement in the beginning, and then we go to chapter 2. As if one or two videos were missing in the beginning.

I found this course to be immediately useful in my novel planning. The tips were new to me and I found the lectures to be enjoyable to listen to. It was definitely worth the cost.

Great information on how to structure a story. I have a great story to write about but have been struggling with the flow of ideas. This will help me a lot. Thank you!
