Learn how to Master Percussion in Music Composition

Hello and Welcome, all Music Composers & Producers! My name is Mike, and I will now teach you how to create powerful percussion. So that you can add that amazing drive, energy and action into your music compositions.

Get a Complete Guide of Percussion

  1. Create the Sound Palette of Percussion

  2. Design the Colors of Percussion

  3. Dominate the Canvas of Percussion

  4. Master the Performance of Your Percussion Mix

It doesn’t matter what kind of drums and percussion instruments you use in your drum mix. You need the individual parts to be able to cover the full range of the frequency spectrum together.

Think of the classic drum kit when you create your percussion group in your DAW, and add the individual parts into the percussion section.

You need to cover the lows, the mids and the highs. And don’t be afraid of layering, and having several types of percussion per range.

In the end, you will be able to write, perform and design any style of percussion in your music compositions.

My name is Mike, music composer and sound designer since 1998. And I truly love to inspire, motivate and educate creative people like you.

Take Action Now!

Now it is time for you to take action, and dive into the world of powerful percussion for music composition. Let's do this...right now!

Mike does a phenominal job of defining and explaining the various usages of percussion in composition, in great detail and with live composition examples as well. Highly recommended.

Rhythmische Beispiele sind akustisch verständlicher, wenn ein Click hörbar ist. Der Unterschied zw Beat und off-Beat Einsätzen ist verständlicher.

I am very new to music composition and electronic music tools. This was a nice introduction to the percussion side of the process. Some knowledge of the tools and terminology was assumed, but it didn't keep me from enjoying the course.

Nothing new here for me but for a beginner composer this is a very good basis. Keep up the good work. When I started composing, I would have needed something like this

yes, but the teacher could benefit from using 2 or even 3 more microphones. When he moves from different areas in the camera, you can't really hear him that well.

Lots of info about percussions as the course stated and probably added to my general knowledge. I just hope that I will also see here the role of each drum part, such as kick, snare, hi-hat and so forth and how to approach writing drums part in your music composition

Nice course that covers a lot of instruments to be used for drums etc. Some good advice and tips for other things like drum fills etc and also good in general for learning about the spacing of drums and where do they fit in the spectrum of a whole track etc. Recommend it to anyone who has not got much knowledge of creating drum patterns.

Great Course. Helped me to get accustomed with the percussion tools for composing, and when and how to use it, and the rhythm. It would have 5 stars, if there were more cheatsheets/resources/handouts for various topics (drum ranges, percussion templates, the workflow template), so that the student would be able to look at it when practising the provided techniques.

It helps me understand how to consciously build the elements and use different techniques when creating the percussion instead of me just trying to feel what could be good or unknowingly leaving elements out and not filling the entire frequency range.

Very good info. I love Mike's approach even though I'm not so fond of his use of superlative wording : become a master at abc, become an expert at xyz. We know it is impossible to master anything in a 2.5 hours course if we dont put in lots and lots of work. But regardless, this course is great.

One of my problem areas in learning composing has been percussion. How to use it and what kind of instruments there are. Mikael gives a great introduction to what types of percussions there is and how to use them, and especially when to use them. I have learnt a lot already and I haven't even finished all the lectures yet.

Mike shares a lot of good information, tips and advice. I learnt a lot and fully energised started to write a new piece of music with tons of percussion. Mike is a great tutor/instructor and gives in-depth explanations on his workflow which is helpful and easily applicable.

As always, Mikael's course was outstanding! He is not just knowledgeable as a musician and sound designer, he also has excellent teaching skills. He is able to break apart what he wants to get across into small, understandable segments, and teaches the concepts in a very clear, well thought out manner.

All of my compositions are terribly lacking any percussion. This course will address and help correct this short coming.
