What you will learn

Learn to Build Single & Multi Container Docker Compose Files

Why take this course?

This course is designed to teach you how to build and run an entire application ecosystem using Docker Compose.  We will start out by learning to build a simple single container using a Docker Compose file.  You will be creating a MySQL database in a single container.  You will also get a brief exposure to using a RESTful Feign Client and Liquibase schema migration tool to enforce database schema..  From there, you will learn to build a multi container Docker Compose.  You will create a MySQL and a Kafka/Zookeeper container.  Finally, you will learn to build an entire application ecosystem with Docker Compose, very much close to real life implementation.  This will consist of MySQL, Kafka/Zookeeper and a Spring Boot Microservice.  For this course you will need to download and install Docker desktop (its free).  You will also need to open a free Docker Hub account.  Make sure to choose an IDE to work with.  We use IntelliJ in this course.  This course is OS agnostic and will not matter whether you are on a Windows, MacOSX, Linux or Unix platform.  At the end of this course you will be able to download the code files so that you can practice this yourself.

Some lessons are totally unrelated. There is no clear idea of what and how to explain. Some new docker images are introduced without any introductory explanation of what they are used for and what their purpose is (kafka / zookeeper). The broader picture of what is to be done during this course is not explained. At the beginning, it was not explained that certain lessons will have additional files accompanying the lesson. I watched the lessons in full screen mode and only when I exited that mode I have seen that there are accompanying files with individual lessons. The expertise of the lecturer is excellent, but I would not recommend this course because the presentation is very confusing.

Could be better with just the commands of docker-compose without any IDE. Also I was looking for input related to replication, clustering of servers(mysql | kafka | any other) and common pitfalls if any.

The course is clearly structured and conveys the discussed concepts in a pleasant way. I also like the fact that you talk to me like an IT specialist and not like a kindergarten teacher. On the other hand, the documentation is very poor. If you want to reproduce the discussed steps, you have to find the place in the video where the code is displayed and type it in.
