This course is all about creating reports in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Most of the course has been re-recorded using Visual Studio 2022. No prior knowledge is needed, but some knowledge of T-SQL would be useful.

We will download a version of SQL Server which includes SSRS - for free. We'll also download a database called AdventureWorks, which we will use in our reports.

We'll create various reports, developing our skills bit by bit. As part of designing a report, we will:

  • Select report components (matrix, table, chart and other data visualisation component),

  • Identify the data source and parameters,

  • Design a grouping structure,

  • Create drilldown reports and drillthrough reports.

As part of implementing a report layout, we will:

  • Find out how to format, including formatting colours, dates and numbers;

  • Configure the page;

  • Implement headers and footers;

  • Implement matrices, tables, chart, images, indicators, maps and groupings in reports;

  • Create a range of reports using different data regions;

  • Define custom fields;

  • Implement global collections;

  • Define expressions; and

  • Implement data visualisation components.

As part of implementing interactivity in a report, we will:

  • Create drilldown reports;

  • Create drillthrough reports;

  • Add interactive sorting;

  • Investigate parameters, including multi-value parameters;

  • Create dynamic reports in SSRS using parameters;

  • Implement show/hide property;

  • Add actions (jump to report and URL);

  • Add Fixed headers and a document map.

By the end of this course, you should be confident in creating your own reports in SSRS.

Ottimo corso per principianti o persone con livello base di conoscenza. Molto chiaro e con esempi. Può essere utile anche per utenti più esperti perché analizza funzionalità che potrebbero non essere ancora state usate dagli utenti

The course is very well structured from start to finish. The content is not too little or too overwhelming. There are a lot of exercises which will help you solidify your newly acquired skill.

It is good so far; I am in the need of more complex reports using expressions and whatnot. I need this for work - I have inherited some super-complex reports and having a hard time reverse-engineering them. It is good though.

This course was a great introduction to using SSRS and very easy to follow. Sections 10 and 11 however feel a bit disjointed from the rest of the course. A lot of the information in the last two sections had been previously covered.

The Fact the Teacher knows that the interface he is using does not work with the corporate interface but chooses not to show it often kind of makes it a little hard to follow

Might be worth some time to describe in detail how these groups and bands work. Following along, but a bit muddy on the correlation between rectangles that appear on the canvas, how they tie to Row Groups, etc.

Wow, this class is an amazing wealth of information. I have been a Crystal Reports user in the past for Epicor reporting. I have not had any formal training with Report Builder 2016 but it seemed like a week interface to create and modify reports. I have been told that SSRS is more powerful formatting tool than Crystal once you know how to use it. I have not tried it yet but I plan to try to export an existing report out of Epicor database and modify it using Visual Studio. From what I have seen so far in this class it seems that it could be done and I can then start modifying and creating SSRS reports instead of Crystal Reports that I am familiar with. Epicor no longer supports Crystal Reports just SSRS. It's time for me to join the 2000's. Bill Martin

It is a very good course, and the presenter is very good at presenting the ideas. My only negative is that he goes a bit too fast for me to follow his mouse clicks, etc. By any chance, are there any how-to documents that follow these presentations?

When it comes to shared datasets, I had an error within the AdventureWorksDataSource.rds credential pages. I had to click the prompt for credentials button instead to get it working
